Hershey's Story
Meet Hershey -- a shy, sweet girl with a gentle heart who's learning that people can be safe. 🍫💛

Hershey came to the shelter as an owner surrender and arrived very fearful and submissive--the kind of dog who "pancakes," keeps her head low, and would rather be invisible than bother anyone. At first, she stayed tucked in the back of her kennel and only moved once her leash was on and her person gave her a little space.

And then... she started trying.

With time and patient handling, Hershey has been slowly blossoming. She still prefers a calm approach, but she's begun to lean into gentle pets, follow her handler outside, and even approach staff for affection. She walks nicely on leash, staying close like she's saying, "Please don't leave me behind." Her team is using a "go slow to go fast" plan--letting Hershey choose the pace, build trust, and discover confidence one brave moment at a time.

What Hershey needs most:
✅ A quiet, steady home
✅ Humans who understand shy dogs and will celebrate small wins
✅ Consistent routines, gentle voices, and lots of "you're safe" energy

Dog & home notes:

Hershey may be dog-selective and may do better with dogs her size or larger, and we recommend slow, protected introductions.

Her previous home said she is not house trained, so a new family should plan for patient potty training and structure.

Hershey isn't looking for a loud, busy life -- she's looking for someone kind, someone who will let her exhale and become the dog she's meant to be. If you're the type of person who falls in love with the quiet ones... Hershey might be your girl. 🐾💛
