Hermie - Puppy - Coming Late March's Story
This dog is being fostered in Dallas TX and must be adopted within the Dallas or North Central Texas area.

NAME: Hermie
GENDER: Male (Will be Neutered)
AGE: About 8 Weeks (as of Mid January)
WEIGHT: About 2 pounds (Still Growing)
DOGS/CATS: Gets along great with other small dogs, No to large dogs, Unknown with cats
CHILDREN: Should be great with older, mature children (10 and older)
AVAILABILITY: Late March / Early April

Meet our newest puppy – Hermie.

On Monday Dec 1st, Chihuahua Rescue & Transport received an emergency call for help from a Good Samaritan trying to find a safe place for a neighbor’s Chihuahuas – a mom with 4 one-week-old puppies and another female Chihuahua. All were living in the backyard with no shelter from rain or frigid temps. The mom and puppies were confined in a small wire kennel.

The owners were unwilling to bring the Chihuahua family inside. They informed the neighbor that they would be leaving the country by the end of this week and had no plan for their dogs other than to leave them behind. They told her if she could find a place for their dogs, they would happily surrender them. Urgently, she reached out to us, “They’re freezing. They won’t make it if someone doesn’t come now.” We immediately drove to rescue the family and a few hours later they were safe in a CRT foster home. We have the entire family in CRT foster homes and we have begun their vet work: Clara (Mom) and puppies Belle, Cindy Lou, Hermie and Zuzu!

Hermie is delightful. He gets along well with the small dogs in his foster home. He will wrestle and play every day. He also loves toys!

Hermie loves his foster family. When he is not busy playing he runs over (at full speed) and crawls up on your lap looking for belly rubs and love. He is the most adventurous of all the puppies. Due to his tiny size, we recommend homes with a wooden fence only (he would be able to get out of a wrought iron or chain link fence).

The vet estimates that Hermie is about 8 weeks old (as of mid-January). He weighs about 2 pounds and will continue to grow. His Mom (Clara) is about 7 pounds so we estimate that these puppies will be about 5 – 7 pounds when fully grown. Note we have no idea who the Dad is. Hermie has a beautiful reddish brown coat.

These puppies are very smart. Due to their vaccination status, we are currently training them to potty on puppy pads. At night, Hermey sleeps in a dog bed in an ex-pen with his sister Cindy Lou. Due to his vaccination status, we have not begun to train him on a harness and leash yet.

Hermie’s ideal home will be one with a high activity level. He would love to have another small dog (maybe 1 – 4 years old) to play with. Applications will not be considered where he will be the only dog. Hermie will need a family who can check on him every 4-6 hours (would not be a good fit for a family that works 10-12 hour days). He would be great in a home where there’s a great deal of activity and people were home a lot. Hermie does not bark much at this age. Due to his tiny size, we recommend a home with small dogs only. There are no children in his foster home, but he loves people and we think he will do well with children 10 and older.

We adore this little guy, and know there is a perfect family out there for him. If you love to have fun and then cuddle, Hermie wants to be your BFF. His vet work will be completed in late March, and he will be ready for her forever home at that time. We are accepting applications now.

These puppies are being fostered in the Dallas-Fort Worth (Texas) area. Our CRT adoption form can be found at: http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/ application submits correctly, the system will send you a copy. If you do not receive a copy into your email que, it did not submit. Feel free to email us at DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you need help with the application.

Hermie will be neutered, microchipped, up to date on shots, heartworm negative and on heartworm prevention. Vet work is scheduled to be completed late March, and they will then be ready for adoption. We are accepting applications now.

These puppies are a CRT rescue. Reference checks, adoption contract and $350.00 adoption donation required.

As part of our mission to reduce the number of unwanted and sick dogs, we require that all current pets are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and taking heart worm prevention. Applications will not be considered if one or more of these requirements are not met.

After filling out an adoption application (found at http://www.chihuahua-rescue.com/adoption-application/), please email DFWCoordinator@chihuahua-rescue.com if you are interested in this dog. Please be sure to read about our adoption process and then fill out an adoption application before emailing the contact person.
