Hercules's Story
? ????? Hercules
There’s something incredible about a senior dog. That quiet wisdom, gentle affection, and the way they love with their whole heart. Hercules is all of that wrapped in one big, goofy, loyal package.
He’s basically your funny grandpa in dog form. ?? A little set in his ways, a little dramatic when dinner’s late, but absolutely lovable. He adores pup cups, car rides, and anyone who tells him he’s handsome.... even if he pretends to act all modest about it. Like most old men, he’ll grumble about the attention, a little overwhelmed in busy settings… but secretly loves every second of it. ?
Hercules’ world was turned upside down recently, and he’s doing his best to adjust. Like many seniors whose lives suddenly change, he’s still working through a bit of separation anxiety and kennel nerves. Consistency, along with small doses of fun kennel games and enrichment, will go a long way in building his confidence. Especially if his future family continues this gentle, confidence-boosting routine.
He’s relearning his house manners (we’re helping him understand that indoor Christmas trees aren’t personal rest stops ?) and making progress with kennel training. Because Hercules can get anxious when left alone, supervised outdoor time is required and would thrive with a securely fenced yard where he can explore safely.
Sometimes, “energy” is really just anxiety in disguise - just displaced. Once he settles in and feels secure, that restlessness softens into the sweetest cuddles. Following the 3-3-3 rule will be key: give him time to decompress, settle, and then truly shine.
Despite the old saying, you can teach an old dog new tricks - especially one as smart and eager to please as Hercules. Seniors like him are often the easiest to train because they want to understand, want to belong, and want to make you smile.
He’d love a family who can give him attention, consistency, and love - the kind that reassures him that his life won’t be turned upside down again. In return, he’ll give you loyalty, gratitude, and a gentle companionship that only a senior can offer.
? November is Adopt-A-Senior Month! There’s just something incredible about the resilience of a sugar-face dog. They love harder, appreciate deeper, and bring a calm joy that fills your heart every day.
?
