Heidi's Story
Sweet Heidi

Sweetness doesn’t even begin to describe Heidi! She sleeps great in her crate, safe and warm and after breakfast in the morning she lays in her favorite spot right next to foster mom’s bed. Her neck wound has healed nicely, her hair is beginning to grow back. Yay! She is good for her bath, clipping her nails and cleaning her ears. Heidi is the bestest girl!! She is crate and house trained, walks well on leash and is a dream in the car! She loves people, children and dogs, all shapes and sizes, definitely would chase a cat though.

Heidi is a beautiful shepherd girl who was found as a stray with a rope deeply embedded in her neck where it had been for a very long time, causing terrible pain, injury and infection. Embedded collars/ropes are some of our most heartbreaking rescues because they speak to such long term neglect. The stench of this type of chronic infection is extremely obvious even from a distance and that nobody noticed over the long period of time it takes to get this bad is truly shocking. She was also filthy, flea infested and underweight and yet she’s a happy friendly girl who loves people and greeted everyone joyfully on arrival. The shelter sent her for surgery to repair the gaping wound in her neck and it’s healing well. We removed approximately 40 staples from her neck on arrival and she was such a good girl. Someone clearly was good to her at some point.

We’re guessing this good girl at around 6-8 years old and she’s on the petite side at about 50 pounds.

Applications at www.dogwoodanimalrescue.org

Making a difference one animal at a time.
