Hazelnut's Story
Hi, I'm Hazelnut, Hazel to my friends, and I'm a work-in-progress with a heart of gold!

My journey to the 'inside' world has been a little overwhelming, but I'm making huge strides every day with my wonderful foster family and foster sister. I used to be nervous about all the new sounds and smells, but I've discovered that soft beds and toys are the best things ever. I can often be found snuggled up on my dog bed with my favorite chew toy.

I'm a quiet companion who prefers a calm environment. I get a little overwhelmed by too much excitement, so a home with adults or older, respectful children would be my dream come true. Loud noises and sudden movements can still make me jumpy, so I'm looking for a patient human who understands I need things to go slow and steady.

I'm also very food motivated, which my foster parents say is the key to my training success (and my heart!). I'm still learning leash etiquette, basic commands, and I still have an occasional accident in the house, but I'm improving every day.

I need a secure, fenced yard where I can explore and play safely. When I feel secure, my silly side starts to come out. I really enjoy teasing my foster sister and running away with her ball, so she'll chase me. My ideal person works from home or is home often and has the patience to help me continue to build my confidence and I wouldn't mind the right dog friend to keep me company.

If you're looking for a loyal friend and are ready to offer a quiet, understanding home, please reach out to the rescue! I'm so eager to find my forever person and finally feel safe and loved.

Hazelnut is available to LOCAL (KC area only) adopters through our Foster to Adopt program. Her adopters will be required to take her to and from her already scheduled vet appointment(s) to be spayed.

Her adoption fee is $200 and includes all age-appropriate vaccines, spay, microchip, and heartworm prevention.
