Hazelnut's Story
Meet Hazelnut! About a two years old, Hazy came into our rescue after being found as a skinny stray. She is currently living in a foster home and has filled out nicely - her coat is even so much softer! Hazelnut is getting along just fine with the chihuahua in the home but after a few weeks of trying to acclimate to the kitties, we think it's best if she live in a home without feline companions. She does grumble a bit when the other dog in the home comes too close during dinner time, but that's okay - she just needs a little more space to enjoy her food and higher value treats.

Hazy is a good walker and is working on controlling her impulses around other dogs and little critters out in the neighborhood. She will absolutely benefit from spending some time in a training class, which we recommend for all of our pups and even include a sponsorship for a training voucher. Still a young pup, Hazelnut playful and silly, quite a charming little doggie. She will be a loving and snuggly companion in her future home, and indeed she is quite the little furnace when she snuggles up to you - perfect for the cold winter months. She's got the cutest wrinkly face and sometimes her upper lip gets stuck behind her teeth on one side. Adorable.

One thing potential adopters should know in advance is that Hazelnut did show some hip dysplasia and a luxating patella in one knee during an x-ray taken on her spay day. This is a genetic disposition and absolutely manageable - as long as she is kept lean, gets regular low-impact exercise (regular walks, some suggested PT moves, maybe varied things like hiking or swimming in the warmer months), and takes some joint supplements like chrondontin she can live a normal happy life. Our vet did recommend she avoid doing too many stairs or higher-intensity activities.

Interested in meeting Ms. Hazel?
