Hazel Mae - Local lady's Story

**Please read Hazel Mae's entire profile, which includes a link to the adoption application at the end. Thank you!**

Meet Hazel Mae - a 10-year-old, Hound mix, who weighs 62 pounds (as of 12/27/25). While Sweet Hazel Mae has lived in a loving home with a toddler, she realizes she much prefers to be in a home with school-aged and older kiddos who can be a little more chill! She's currently in a foster home with 6 and 8 yr old kids and has met a toddler and was fine. As always, with any dog, we recommend supervision with young children.

Hazel Mae is an incredibly sweet, lovable and gentle senior hound looking for a soft place to land and spend her retirement years. Through no fault of her own, she’s been moved around recently, so she’s ready for a calm, loving home where she can settle in on your cozy couch and happily coexist with you and your school-aged kids. Even your moody teen won't be so moody with Hazel Mae around!

Hazel thrives in a mostly quiet environment with people who enjoy getting out for a daily walk or spending time outside - she'd love to find a home with a fenced in backyard, but not a requirement. This girl is great on a leash and doesn't pull because she loves a leisurely stroll around the block. She is happy with about an hour of walking each day, whether that’s two shorter walks or one longer one, so if you need to get away from the chaos of your home, she's more than happy to give you an excuse!

Hazel is fully house-trained and can be left home alone without being destructive or noisy because she knows you don't need to come home to that after a long day of work. How considerate, Hazel! She’s wonderfully low-key, especially in the mornings, and will happily let you sleep in and even press the snooze button for you. The best part about Hazel is that she isn't demanding or needy. She simply enjoys being near her people and sharing the same space.

While Hazel gets along well with other dogs and currently walks comfortably in a group setting, she would prefer to be the only pet in her retirement home so she can enjoy all the love and attention you can give her. While on walks, she's friendly and can pass other dogs and people without reacting, and will even greet them nicely when invited. Although she has lived with cats in the past, she’s recently shown more interest in them, so a cat-free home would be best. No offense, kitties!

As a hound, Hazel does have a voice and will let you know if she needs to go out or when someone comes to the door. She's the perfect security guard which is great so the neighborhood kids won't be able to prank you anymore! She is especially vocal when it's time to eat. Her bark can be loud, so apartment living probably wouldn't be a good fit for her. Hazel's very food motivated and would enjoy continued training, but overall she’s an easy, laid-back companion.

The only thing Hazel Mae isn't a fan of is thunderstorms (can you blame her?) so be sure to belt like Julie Andrews and remind her of her favorite things!

If you’re hoping to give a sweet senior dog the comfort and stability she deserves, Hazel would love to be by your side!

All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.

To adopt or learn more about Hazel Mae, you must fill out an adoption application. To find the application, copy and paste this URL into your browser: WWW.GDRNE.COM/ADOPTION-APPLICATION [Adoption Fee: $425] **

PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application.
