Hazel's Story
Hi there! I'm Hazel, and if you're looking for a loyal shadow who knows where you're headed even before you do, then I'm your girl! I love to be right under your feet and blend in perfectly with dark floors, so I wear a bright safety orange collar to avoid being stepped on.
I've got two speeds: full throttle and snooze! I'm fierce with my toys, chasing them down and growling like a wild beast when I bring them back to you. Once I've worn myself out, I need to be right next to you, resting my head on your chest. My foster mom says I'm just the sweetest thing once I wind down a bit ??... just look at my eyes and you'll see how much I adore you!
Why do I have so much energy, you ask? It’s because I’m estimated to be just one year old (estimated dob 6/16/2023). Found on the streets of Houston with really long nails and terribly emaciated, it’s obvious I didn’t have the ideal start at life. That doesn’t stop me from loving you or embracing every day with gusto, though!
My foster mom says I know how to use the doggie door, and I AM crate trained (although I’ll howl sometimes because I’d rather be with you than in the crate). That said, I'm still working on avoiding accidents in the house, so I need someone who is able to help me learn to master that skill, to keep a watchful eye on me, and to let me out frequently. I'm not a big fan of stepping on the grass, but if you stand outside with me, I'll take care of my business. Please just be patient with me, because I'm still really young and get distracted very easily.
Along the line of manners, I can be a little bitey and barky, so apartments and children under 8 years old wouldn’t be a good match for me. Because I have a tendency to be underfoot and because of my energy, I wouldn’t be a good match for an elderly person with mobility issues either. I’m happy to say I DO get along GREAT with other dogs (provided they don’t mind my energy), and even the household cat.
Since I've been in my foster home, I've eaten well and gained some weight, am up to date on my vaccinations, heartworm negative, and microchipped. I was spayed on July 12th (I actually had male AND female organs), so am healing from that and will be ready for adoption after July 27th. If you want a loving, playful companion who will always be by your side, submit an app to adopt me, Hazel, at https://www.gulfcoastcockerspanielrescue.com/2020-adoption-application-captcha.php

I can’t wait to meet you!
