Hazel's Story

Hazel’s story is one of resilience and second chances. This beautiful red-nosed pitbull was heartbreakingly surrendered when her previous owner moved and chose not to take her along. She ended up on the euthanasia list at a high-kill shelter b it was rescued at the last minute by her foster family.

Hazel, lovingly called “Pookie Girl,” is as affectionate as they come. She has the softest, most soulful eyes that seem to understand exactly how you feel. She loves to cuddle close, give gentle kisses, and look deeply into your eyes as if to say, “I’ve got you.” She’s the perfect mix of playful and mellow, she’ll make you laugh one minute and melt into a snuggle puddle the next.

Her favorite things? Cozy blankets, morning sunbathing sessions, and chilling to her favorite song — “NOKIA” by Drake — because, yes, she’s got great taste in music. 🎶

Hazel is incredibly well-mannered. She never fights going into her kennel, politely waits for you to pet her head before she eats, and is wonderfully attuned to the mood of the room, a truly emotional and intuitive companion. Because her early socialization is unclear, Hazel would do best as an only pet. In her current foster home, she has shown she isn’t cat-friendly, and while she can get along with select dogs, she prefers slow introductions and steady routines.

With six months of pack walks, controlled interactions, and training, she’s built a sweet friendship with her foster’s two beagles. Proof that with the right guidance, Hazel can form positive bonds. She just needs someone willing to continue the progress she’s already made.
