With patience and kindness, he made remarkable progress almost immediately. Within a day, he began to relax, and by the end of the week his true personality started to shine.<br/><br/>As Hawkins gains confidence, he blossoms. At home, he’s a total cuddle-bug: wiggly, affectionate, and generous with kisses. Snuggle time is his favorite activity, and he makes an excellent couch potato companion. He has a calm, mellow demeanor with sweet little bursts of playful energy.<br/><br/>Hawkins has learned that cats aren’t scary at all and will even try to snuggle up with them. He does wonderfully with our resident dog and has been neutral and well-mannered when encountering other dogs at a distance while relaxing at a café. He’s met an excitable four-year-old child and did great. While he’s still shy with new people, he allows gentle handling and just needs a bit of time and reassurance to warm up.<br/><br/>Occasionally, Hawkins may bark when something startles him (sometimes even familiar people entering the room at night) but he’s easily redirected and reassured, and this has steadily improved as his confidence grows.<br/><br/>He sleeps soundly in his crate through the night and is well on his way to being potty trained. He’s incredibly smart and a fast learner. He’s also already a pro at car rides and does wonderfully going to new places and settling calmly into his travel dog bed.<br/><br/>Hawkins will make a truly special companion for any kind of family. He just needs a home that can offer patience, gentleness, and the space for his personality to continue unfolding.
