Harvey's Story

Harvey is an 11-year-old Chihuahua with a big personality tucked into a little senior package. This handsome gentleman was previously adopted through Stop the Suffering and spent many years with his family, but found himself back in our care after becoming uncomfortable with a newly mobile infant in the home.

Harvey is what we lovingly describe as a little "cat-like." He enjoys affection and companionship, but he also appreciates having his own space and doing things on his own terms. At this stage of his life, he's not looking for a busy household or a packed social calendar. Harvey would much rather find a calm home where he can settle into a predictable routine, enjoy some cozy spots, and spend his days with people who understand and appreciate a senior guy like him.

Because Harvey has shown that he is uncomfortable around small children, he will not be placed in a home with young children (no exceptions). We want Harvey's next home to be one where both he and his family can feel comfortable and set up for success.

Since returning to our care, we also discovered that Harvey had been silently suffering from glaucoma in an eye in which he was already blind. Because the eye was no longer functional and was causing him discomfort, we made the decision to proceed with an enucleation (removal of the eye). Harvey also received a much-needed dental while in our care. And what a difference it has made! Harvey seems to be feeling so much better now that he's no longer living with that chronic eye pain. After recovering from his surgery and dental, we've seen a noticeably happier, more comfortable little man emerge. He may officially be a one-eyed senior gentleman now, but Harvey certainly doesn't seem bothered by it and we think his new look just adds to his character.

At 11 years young, Harvey isn't asking for much. He's looking for someone who will give him a peaceful home, let him be his wonderfully quirky self, and appreciate the privilege of loving a senior dog.

Adoption fee: $250 includes spay/neuter, microchip, fecal/deworming, negative heartworm, vaccines and prevention up to date. Ohio residents only.
