Harley's Story
Estimated DOB: January 15, 2024

Harley is a smart, spirited pup who’s still figuring out the world—and he’s looking for a home that can guide him with love, structure, and a healthy dose of patience. At just a little over a year old, Harley already knows a solid set of commands like sit, down, paw (both paws!), look at me, stay, release, and drop it (most of the time). He responds to hand cues and is quick to pick up on training—especially when food is involved.

Speaking of food…Harley lives for treats, puzzle feeders, mazes, and food-based games. He’s also a huge fan of squeaky toys, hard rubber balls, and sturdy rope toys. Add in a car ride, a long walk (he’s working on the whole not pulling thing), and a belly rub, and you’ve got a very happy Harley.

But like a lot of big-hearted young dogs, Harley is still learning how to channel his enthusiasm. He can get overly excited and sometimes jumps and nips—especially during play or greetings. He’s also a bit of a bulldozer, pushing through people or other pets when he wants attention or to be first in line. His play style can be a little extra for most dogs—he means well, but he plays rough and doesn't always know when to stop. He’s learning boundaries!

Harley is also working hard on house training (about 80% there!) and sleeps in his crate at night with low-volume music. He prefers not to be left alone and cries if isolated, but he's comforted by routine and his cozy crate setup.

Ideal Home:
Harley needs an experienced, confident, and active adopter—someone who understands behavior quirks and is committed to ongoing training. A home with no young kids (teens and up only), no cats, and ideally a patient, playful and tolerant dog friend his size, would be best for him right now. He thrives with structure, positive reinforcement, and lots of mental enrichment.

This boy has so much potential—he’s affectionate, intelligent, and eager to learn. With the right guidance, Harley will blossom into an incredible companion. If you’ve got the time, energy, and heart to help him shine, Harley might just be your next best friend.

Apply at rescueapittie.org
