Happy's Story

My name is Happy. I’m 4 years old and weigh about 10 kg. I am now looking for a family that has experience with fearful dogs. I'm adorable once I feel comfortable, but I need time to warm up to people. Once I love you, I'll always be by your side!

People say I’m a very joyful little pup! I love playing with my humans and getting attention. Throw me the ball and I’ll happily bring it back. My favourite toys are the squeaky ones—I go crazy for them! I also really enjoy car rides and am always happy to hop in.

I like going for walks outside, but I would do best with a family that has a fenced yard so I can enjoy some freedom at first. I tend to run away when I see my harness and leash because they scare me a bit, but I’m making progress. I’m very food-motivated, so treats will definitely help with continued desensitization.

I’m almost fully house-trained, but I still need a pee pad at night. I’m not destructive in the house—good news, right? Nail trims are possible, though I still need work in that area, as I don’t really enjoy them yet.

Like many small dogs, I’m naturally anxious. If someone approaches too quickly or reaches out with both hands, it scares me so much that I may freeze or even urinate out of fear. I might also try to flee or retreat into my crate to hide. If I feel trapped, I may warn by attempting to snap (but I have not bitten anyone since being with MM). The first few weeks of adjustment are hard for me, but after the first month, I adapt well. I simply need my boundaries to be respected.

I’m therefore looking for a calm home, without children, with experienced humans who can help me continue to grow. I tend to prefer women over men, so having a female presence in the home would be ideal. And I absolutely love sleeping with my humans! I slip under the blankets, crawl down to their feet, and curl up against their legs.

Could you be the family that helps me push my limits and continue making progress?
