Hank's Story

Howdy! My name is Hank.
I know what you're thinking... "What kind of dog is that?" My foster mom and dad hear that all the time!

I'm a long-haired blue Weimaraner. Yep, we exist! Most people have never seen one before. My foster sister, Ivy, looks just like me—except I'm about 20 pounds heavier and 6 inches taller. What can I say? I'm a BIG boy.

But don't let my size fool you—I'm a gentle giant. In fact, I like to believe I'm the perfect lap dog... even if everyone else says I'm a little too big for that!

I've recently discovered something wonderful called treats, and let me tell you... they're amazing! Since I'm about countertop height, though, if you'd like to keep your own snacks, you might want to put them away. Consider yourself warned!
I'm about to celebrate my 8th birthday, so I'm a mature gentleman. I've had a pretty rough couple of years. My dad passed away unexpectedly, and after that I got shuffled around from place to place. His daughter loved me, but she wasn't able to keep caring for me, and the other dog in the home wasn't interested in sharing his space with me—or with any other dogs, really. Thankfully, she reached out to rescue, and now I'm getting a fresh start.

Now I'm searching for a family who understands Weimaraners, appreciates a big cuddly companion, and enjoys things like walks and a good game of fetch.
One of my best qualities? I'm a wonderful walking buddy! I walk politely on a harness, enjoy meeting new people, and have excellent manners when we're out and about. I've even been on outings to Home Depot and Discount Tire, where everyone said I was a perfect gentleman. My foster sister Ivy and I definitely turn heads wherever we go!

As for other dogs, I'm still figuring that out. I live happily with my foster sister, Ivy, and we get along great. I've met a few other dogs, and some introductions have gone well while others have been a little too rowdy for my taste. My foster family is continuing to help me meet new dogs so we can learn more, but it seems like I prefer calm, respectful canine friends. Honestly... who doesn't?

I also have experience living with cats! I shared my home with six cats, and we all got along just fine. So if your family includes feline friends, there's a good chance we can be pals too with proper introductions.
I've spent a lot of time in a crate in the past, and I've decided it's just not for me. My foster parents are seeing how I do with having more freedom around the house instead.

Truth be told, I'm a pretty laid-back guy. You'll often find me stretched out on the couch or snoozing on the floor, enjoying a nice long nap. I love being close to my people, and I'm happiest when I'm simply hanging out with my family. One thing I don't enjoy, though, is fireworks and thunder. They're loud and scary, so I'll appreciate a family who understands that I may need a quiet, safe place to relax when the booms start. Calming treats or trazadone have been helpful!

When I first arrived in rescue, my skin and nails needed some TLC. After several soothing baths, regular nail trims, lots of love, and a healthy diet, I'm looking more and more like the handsome fellow I was always meant to be.

The good news? I'm neutered, up to date on all my vaccinations, heartworm negative, and on monthly heartworm, flea, tick, and parasite prevention. I'm healthy, happy, and ready for my forever family.

If you're looking for an incredibly handsome, eye-catching, sweet, loving companion with a heart as big as he is, I just might be your perfect match.
I'm currently being fostered in the Northeast Indianapolis area, and I can't wait to meet the family I've been waiting for.

Could that be you? Please go to Louisvilleweimrescue.com for the adoption application if I'm your man. Meet and Greet with pets will be expected.
