Meet HANK!

MEET HANK!

This polite older gentleman was found by animal control tied up to a post in an abandoned shopping center. He was timestamped for euthanasia due to the shelter being so full but thankfully, he caught the eye of a City of Elderly Love foster family and is now ready to find the perfect home!

Not much is known about Hank’s past, aside from the fact that he was once an owned pet, but his found condition indicates he was likely on his own for a while. Hank has received a full medical workup which revealed an old spinal injury that causes weakness in his hind legs. Coupled with a bit of arthritis, Hank wears booties on his back paws to stop from scraping when walking on concrete and gets an abundance of compliments on his fashion choices every time he goes out!

Despite his hardships, Hank has remained a polite and happy dog, eager to meet every person and dog he comes in contact with, especially now that he has put on some weight and is feeling much better! He also doesn’t let his mobility issues stop him as he still loves to walk, run and play – just a bit slower than some of the other dogs. The only real limitation he has is the inability (or lack of desire) to walk up or down more than 3-4 stairs or participate in rough and tumble play.

Hank’s favorite thing to do is roam around slowly and endlessly, taking in his surroundings through sight and smell as he is at least partially deaf. He loves to gallop around a grassy field and say hello to any dog who might come within 20 feet of him. When inside, Hank mostly keeps to himself, taking frequent snoozes in his dog bed and occasionally playing with his favorite stuffed toy. His favorite games -- when he wants to play -- are tug-of-war and indoor fetch. He walks very well on a leash, and rarely ever barks, making him the perfect, quiet companion.

Hank would do best in a home with continuous access to a yard big enough to require routine perimeter checks to ensure it’s all still there, and perhaps a couple of like-minded companions with whom to form a pack. He is not a constant house dog and would do best with an active family. Hank will also require routine vet checkups and lab testing as his care team have identified organ abnormalities that are not currently concerning and want them to stay that way!

Hank is house trained, crate trained, neutered and microchipped and currently cohabitates with the resident cat. He is the true definition of resilience, and now just needs his forever home to complete his comeback journey! Hank is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love! Interested in adopting him?
