Hank's Story

Up for Adoption!
Hi, I’m Hank 🐾
I’m a 5–6-year-old, 60-lb handsome guy with a big heart and an even bigger appreciation for the simple things in life. I may be a little more “middle-aged” these days… but hey — older dogs deserve love too, right? And just so you know, I was once a cute little puppy before I grew into this calm, charming gentleman. 😉
I’m a mellow, gentle soul who would thrive in a quiet to medium-energy home. I prefer to be the only dog, and honestly? That just means all of my love, loyalty, and snuggles go straight to you. Fewer mouths to feed, fewer vet bills — sounds like a win-win to me!
I’m fully house trained, and while I am crate trained, I don’t need one. When my foster human heads to work, I happily curl up on my dog bed and relax until they’re home. I’m easy, low-maintenance, and respectful of my space.
I adore adults and do great with kids 10+. I love leisurely neighborhood walks, sniffing everything along the way, and stretching my legs in the yard — that’s my happy place. I’m also smart, food-motivated, and eager to please, especially if treats are involved.
When it’s time to relax, you’ll usually find me enjoying a good bone or tossing around my plush toys with squeakers — those are my absolute favorites! And at my core? I’m a total snuggler. The lean-in-close, melt-into-your-side, soak-up-the-love kind.
I don’t need much — just a calm home, a soft place to rest, and someone who finally sees me for the wonderful dog I am.
If you’re looking for a loyal, easygoing companion who’s past the puppy chaos and ready to be your steady best friend, I might just be your guy. 💙
Reach out to Long Road Home Rescue (lrhrescue@gmail.com) to get lots more info on me!

Long Road Home's Adoption Policy
Where do we get our dogs? Majority of our dogs come from high kill shelters. Some are owner surrender or strays. All of the dogs that come into our rescue have been in high emergency situations where they would not be wagging their tails. We work with a lot of shelters in the south as well as on long island. We have wonderful people who dedicate their time to the dogs and transport them into our long island foster homes. What happens to the dog after we accept it into the program? All of the dogs first go to see a vet. Once they receive a clean bill of health the go into a home. We normally give each dog at least a week in a home with qualified trainer before we place the dog into a foster. We really like to have the dogs house broken and to have at least started basic obedience training. After the trainer we place the dog into its new foster home until it finds its forever home.
