Hank's Story
Hank is a happy go lucky 3 year old miniature golden doodle / blue heeler mix. His warm personality and friendly demeanor shines! He’s loyal, empathetic and affectionate; he’ll snuggle and plop his head down on you any chance he gets. He’s a nice tall 35 pound size. Loves to lay on his back for tummy rubs. He’s fully housebroken and kennel trained; will walk into his kennel upon simply hearing the word “kennel”. He also likes to walk into his kennel throughout the day on his own and hang out with the door open. Very trustworthy and has slept in bed with us – his fosters – since night four.
He loves his daily walks! His social behavior continues to illustrate the classic ‘blue heeler people pleaser’ trait. When we are on a walk and stop to chat with a neighbor, he will lie down on his own, chill and enjoy the breeze. He enjoys meeting other dogs on our walks. The few larger dogs that he originally would exchange a bark with, he now looks at, smiles and keeps walking. He continues to learn new things! When he arrived mid-June, he had little interest in toys but was clearly immensely loved in his original home. Through lots of intentful play, he now loves his nightly game of ball off leash in the backyard.
He’s very clear on his cues. If the door on his pen accidentally closes or he needs his food refilled, he will clearly come and put his paws on your lap to tell you. We are working on having him give us the cues more gently. Hank will make you chuckle with his mannerisms! He likes to hold hands/paws. Sometimes he simply comes up to us and wants a hug. He likes his ears rubbed and nose gently tapped. While I wake at 5am and offer for him to go outside, he prefers to stay in bed and snuggle with anyone sleeping. Then when they get up, he moves to the next bedroom. Then the fourth bedroom. When the last person wakes up, then he’s ready to go outside potty. Oh yeah, he spins in a circle before he poops – every time!
He loves his baths. Just stands there and soaks it all in. His nails are currently a tad long. We haven’t had him groomed yet as we want his adoptive family to pick the style they would like for him. So he’s still sporting the ‘shaggy’ look. He will wake up from his nap if he hears anyone in the house having a snack – LOL! Hank would do well in a family-oriented home setting, where he can be an integral part of daily life - whether that’s a couple that enjoys walks or a family. Hank loves napping in the afternoon and looks forward to the activity with more people around in the evening! He does well with our 4 & 5 year old neighbors and loved playing with our 8 year old niece; he impressively followed her sit/stay/ok commands with multiple seconds in between – multiple times. He’s a learner and will grow beautifully with his new family. Oddly and honestly, we’ve noticed that while he is very comfortable around children he is not near as comfortable around people in their 70-80’s. While he doesn’t bark much and is quite quiet, he will bark when seeing a senior citizen. He was surrendered from Manchester where in his original home he was with another dog, Mae. When Mae had her litter of 8 puppies, Hank got extra foster time to see if they would be best suited back together or separately. They are both thriving independently! Hank is that happy go lucky pup that consistently wags his tail and multiples love!
For immediate interest text 563-451-5399 he is located in Dubuque Iowa
we also MUST have a full application online through us prior to any meet and greet. apply here at whispurringhoperescue.weebly.com
