Hammond's Story

Personality: I'm an energetic, goofy guy who loves to play, but I also know when it's time to relax and chill.

Education: Crate trained and working on potty training (and making great progress daily!)

Favorite Activities: Going for walks, playing fetch and tug-of-war, working on my snack puzzles and Kongs

Looking For: A home where someone enjoys spending time together - whether it be adventures outside or just relaxing at home! I'd do well with either a family or a single person, and would likely do best in a household without small pets.

Special Needs/Concerns: taking anxiety medication, but working on weaning off of it!

Bio: Hi there! My name is Hammond, and I'm a 6-year-old neutered Yellow Labrador Retriever/Chow Chow mix weighing about 50 pounds. I've come all the way from Ellos Son La Razon in Mexico, and I'm ready to put all of that behind me and find my furever home! I'm a healthy boy but currently taking medication to help with some anxiety. However, I'm slowly being weaned off of it as I continue to do well.

I'm an energetic, goofy guy who loves to play, but I also know when it's time to relax and chill. I'm very sweet and cuddly, and I'll happily lean into you for affection whenever I get the chance. I do well around medium-to-large dogs and am still getting exposure to smaller dogs outside the home. I haven't spent much time around kids or cats yet, but I think I'd do well with children - however, cats might not be my favorite companions.

As for training, I'm still working on my potty training and may have an accident or two if I'm not let outside right away when you get home - but I'm making great progress every day! Managing my water intake helps, too. I do fine in my crate, although I can be a little hesitant at first. Once I settle in, though, I'm calm and comfortable. I'm also great on a leash and don't pull, which makes walks together really enjoyable. I have mild separation anxiety, but I usually calm down within a few minutes after being left alone.

Sometimes, I can get a little anxious when people are walking by outside, but I truly love everyone I meet. I enjoy going for walks, playing fetch and tug-of-war, and working on my snack puzzles and Kongs. One funny quirk about me: I'm not a big fan of watching animals on the TV for long periods of time!

More than anything, I love being with people. I'd thrive in a home where someone enjoys spending time together - whether that means going on adventures, heading out for hikes, or just relaxing and snuggling on the couch. I'd do well with a family or a single person, especially in a home with active but laid-back owners. I'd probably do best in a household without small pets.

Do we sound like a match? If so, my adoption fee includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. If you want to take me home, please apply!

Hammond's freedom ride was graciously sponsored by Shannon Thiss!

The Animal Pad's Adoption Policy
We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane. Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational. All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times. All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise. Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000. Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc. Adoption Application: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/
