Hammerhead's Story

HammerheadThis sweet boy is an absolute gorgeous 1-year-old German Spitz. He has had ZERO applications and we are so sad about it. He does have quirks that the adopters should be aware of, but that doesnt make him any less deserving of a forever home.Vet assessment of him:He is very nervous with new situations and people. Hammer has been diagnosed with general anxiety and impulse control aggression. Thinking of him as you would a toddler in the terrible twos stage that tests boundaries to find where he is safe. He isnt sure if people are places are going to hurt him so he acts aggressive and nips, barks, and tries to act big to protect himself. Once he builds trust and feels safe he lets his walls down. Trust building will be a patience required process. He is currently prescribed Prozac & Gabapentin daily (Trazodone as needed as well!)From his foster! He comes up willingly for pets and snuggles now, that wasnt always the case. I can pick him up without bites or nips, and I can put him in his crate at night and he only barks for a few seconds and then settles down. Last night he was even asleep belly up in his crate which is HUGE progress. He is fully housebroken, no marking or accidents in house or crate. He is dog and cat friendly, although XL size dogs make him uncomfortable, he is scared of my large 170lb mastiff, but he plays with my 40 lb pyr mix and my tiny dogs without a problem. He also LOVES rope toys and tennis balls. Tennis balls will immediately distract him from any negative behavior. Think Dory from Finding Nemo, tennis ball= current thought gone!
