Hambone's Story

Hambone is a 7-year-old sweetheart who was found in heartbreaking condition — emaciated, covered in fleas, and alone in a church parking lot. But his story is taking a turn for the better. Now safe at our Sanctuary, Hambone is finally receiving the love and care he’s always deserved.

Despite his rough past, Hambone has remained in good spirits. As he feels more comfortable, we see a playful, goofy pup emerging! This resilient boy has so much love to give and is ready to share it with someone special. He is full of energy and always ready to go!

We may not know what he’s been through, but we’re certain his future is full of hope, comfort, and companionship.

He has done well around other dogs with proper introduction. He would do best in a home with adults only.

He was previously in a foster home and she said this about him...

-Genuinely goofy and happy pup - aka Mr. Wigglebutt.
-Smart and t-r-e-a-t motivated. Knows a variety of commands - and wants to learn even more.
-House trained - he lets you sleep in (within reason), but when he has to go, he will let you know.
-Eats all his food - then comes and thanks you for his delicious meal each and every time.
-Equal parts energy and cuddle-bug. He enjoys his long (and short) walkies, then comes back and will collapse next to you (or on your lap) on the couch.

Ideal adopter —

-Yard access and/or physically able to take him on longer walks ... he still has some energy in his tank and he loves sniffing around different locales. He is not very fond of car rides - he will happily load into the car but exhibits some “anxious” tendencies while in transit.
-He does well when left at home while i work an 8-hour shift. Do be mindful - he has long legs and has the ability to “counter surf” (so keep the area pup proofed).
-Dog savvy family or no children household: I would be cautious bringing him into a house with (younger) children - only because he tends to be very mouthy. Never in a malicious way - just how he shows his love. We are working on outgrowing it daily.

If you’re ready to open your heart to this handsome guy, please visit our website and submit an application today!

https://www.seniordogsanctuary.com/adoption-application.html

Senior Dog Sanctuary of Maryland's Adoption Policy
Why adopt a Senior Dog? Experienced, housebroken, settled down, loving and lovable, good with children, excellent company, non-judgemental - we could go on but you get the picture. Exceptions to everything listed? Sure, but all in all an experience you will never regret. First, come visit the dogs that interest you; we are open, by appointment, every day of the week from 10-3. Then complete our Adoption Application, which asks for personal references, your animals' Vet, information about your home environment and your agreement to allow us to do a home visit. Once approved, we will do a meet and greet with your family - including your four-legged family members. If all goes well, you welcome your pup into your home and your heart and you all become members of our extended Senior Dog Sanctuary family!
