Halo's Story

Some stories remind us just how powerful timing, fate, and love can be—and Halo’s story is one of them.
Halo, a beautiful 6-year-old American Bully mix, was just minutes—seconds—away from losing her life. Her name isn’t just a name; it’s a symbol of the divine timing that saved her.
She met the founder of our rescue through a twist of fate: a delayed vet visit, a chance encounter, and a last-second decision that changed everything.
The founder had walked into the vet’s office to pick up flea medication for some of our rescue cats—something she was supposed to do the day before. As she was about to pay and leave, the vet came around the corner with a syringe in his hand and waved her over. He eagerly mentioned a dog he was about to euthanize—Halo (then named Remi).
After years of loyalty, Halo’s new owner became overwhelmed after welcoming a newborn into the home. Instead of seeking help or trying to find Halo a new home, the decision was made to end her life.
The founder asked to meet her.
When she stepped into the room, it was almost too late. Halo had already been sedated—the first step in the euthanasia process. The syringe in the vet’s hand would have stopped her heart if they had arrived just seconds later. One red light. One delay. One moment—and Halo wouldn’t be here.
But she is.
We named her Halo because there was clearly one over her head that day. She is living proof that miracles exist and that every life matters. Her story is the heart of what our rescue stands for—A Second DogGone Chance.
Today, Halo is thriving. She’s full of love, joy, and gratitude. Her tail starts wagging the moment she sees you, and her soulful eyes light up for attention. She’s affectionate, silly, and yes—a little food-motivated (she insists her diet starts tomorrow… maybe).
Halo is deaf, but it doesn’t slow her down one bit. She communicates beautifully through visual cues, is eager to please, and forms deep bonds with the people who love her. She also does wonderfully with cats and coexists peacefully with feline friends.
She’s spayed, fully vaccinated, heartworm negative, and ready to begin the next—and best—chapter of her life.
Halo is hope.
Halo is resilience.
Halo is meant to be here.
Now she just needs someone who sees her the way we do—a precious life worth fighting for.
Could that someone be you?
