Meet Hailey

Introducing Hailey: a charming, spirited girl in search of her forever home.

Rescued From: The Dog Go Project - Mexico, September 27, 2023
Breed: Hound/Boxer | Coat: Golden/White | Date of Birth: March 2023 |
7 months | Sibling: Justin

Background:

Hailey's Mexican Journey: Meet Hailey, a tale of rescue and resilience. Hailey's journey began when we spotted her mother, Raisa, bravely navigating a chaotic avenue in Mexico. Beside Raisa was another pup in need. Upon inquiry, we learned they were connected to a local mechanic's workshop. The owner, though providing them food, couldn't afford to spay them, leading to multiple litters. After heartfelt persuasion, he entrusted us with Raisa and her two remaining pups, Justin and Hailey.

Toronto Foster Family Update:

Personality:

Hailey is an affectionate girl who adores pets. She's currently a medium-to-high-energy puppy. She's inquisitive, unafraid, and occasionally jumps on counters and will get into things, unless she is being supervised and shown how to play with her toys. When Hailey can’t be supervised, crate training is a must to keep her out of trouble. Playfulness is her middle name, and she's eager to meet other dogs, though she may bark if denied. Toys are her joy, especially soft ones, and she's teething, so rubber toys are a favourite. Beware, she's a bit of a shoe thief and enjoys some roughhousing with her foster dog.

Training:

She's got "sit" and "paw" down pat. "Lay down" and "come" are works in progress. Leash walking is fairly good, and she checks in frequently during walks. She's not a fan of her crate yet, will bark and whine to protest. However with time and continued training she will be able to settle and get comfortable. Using high value treats and feeding her meals in the crate will help her associate good things with being in the crate.

Activity and Pleasures:

Hailey's energy level is medium to high. Long walks and an array of toys mentally stimulate her, leading to peaceful moments. Short walks of 10 to 45 minutes are equally enjoyable for her. Upon returning home, she might have a case of the zoomies and explore the area she is in. Rope and various toys keep her entertained. She is highly food motivated, so using enrichment toys, like kongs and lick matts will also be great activities to keep her entertained.

Ideal Home:

Hailey's easygoing and curious but wary of approaching strangers. Due to her teething phase, it's best to avoid small children for now. An experienced owner well-versed in puppy raising would be ideal. Crate training and setting boundaries are essential for her early development. A secure environment with limited access to tempting items is recommended. Food motivation is strong, so keeping food out of reach is wise, but is a good tool to use for training. An active family with lots of time to spend with Hailey is ideal, a house or condo would be fine as long as she has access to play and to be safe.
