Gus 's Story

Gus / arrived July 23

55 lbs / 9 months (DOB December 2022) / male / retriever mix / originally from Mexico

?Fostered in Cambridge

Introducing handsome Gus! Gus is a big, goofy puppy who is learning the ropes of being a family dog in Canada. Gus is very social with other dogs, people, and kids, and we think he would thrive in most homes! He is looking for a family who is active and can keep up with his energy and excitement. Gus also does great with kiddos of all ages and would love a family who can grow up with him!

Good with adults: yes! He can be a bit shy at first but he warms up quickly
Good with kids: yes, of all ages!
Good with other dogs: yes, but is a very excitable puppy, so older or less tolerant dogs may not love his energy
Good with cats: untested
House trained: yes
Crate trained: yes
Energy level: medium to high (he loves to play and party, but is also very cuddly!)
Can be handled/touched: loves it!
Barker: pretty quiet
Food aggressive: not at all, but he’s using a slow feeder since he’s a very quick eater!
Walks on a leash: Gus pulls and barks when he sees dogs he wants to meet. He can also be a bit nervous when meeting new people, but he’s improving day by day!
Escape artist: doesn’t appear to be, but caution around doors is recommended since he doesn’t hesitate in doorways
Good in the car: a bit nervous
Background: Gus’ mom and her young litter were abandoned outside our shelter partner in Mexico
Medical: Gus’ nose was how he was born. There were a couple dogs just like that and it was endearing to us. There are no issues or concerns with his breathing and he is healthy as can be!
