Gus's Story
Pet Location:
Wayside’s Canine Behavior Center – I'd love to show off all the cool things I’ve learned at Wayside! Please arrive at the shelter before 4pm on our open adoption days to meet me!

My Friends at Wayside say:
- I am enrolled in LIFT University. This is a program for dogs to build confidence in new situations and work on managing energy. My adoption comes with a free 30-minute private training session.
- I'm a lovable, silly boy once I warm up! Cuddles are my favorite.
- I have a lot of energy and need an active adopter!
- I already know some basic commands!
- New people and things make me a little nervous. Let’s take things slow!
- I am eligible for a Slumber Pawty, a 7-10 day in-home trial period. Please visit our website for additional information.

My home needs are:
- I need a home without other dogs - I prefer having your attention all to myself!
- No apartments or shared living spaces for me, please! I can be nervous around new people, and I like to use my voice.
- I need a home with kids 6 years old and older since I tend to be nervous around new people and loud noises.
- If you have kids in the home between 6 and 9 years old, I will need to meet them since I can be nervous around new people and loud noises.
- For my safety, I need to go home on an anti-slip collar called a martingale collar. For your convenience, we sell them in our retail store, Whiskers and Wags.

Check out my super cool new video! Scroll through my photos to watch it.

Hiya, I’m Gus!

I’m a 2-year-old pittie with a big personality, a goofy streak, and a heart that’s just waiting to be shared. I’ll be honest...I like to take things a little slow when meeting new people. The world can feel like a lot sometimes, so I appreciate patience and kindness while I get to know you. But once I’ve decided you’re one of my people? Oh man... you’re in for it (in the VERY best way). I turn into a total lovebug who lives for cuddles, attention, and soaking up every bit of affection you’ve got to give.

Right now, I’m a proud student in LIFT University here at Wayside Waifs (that stands for Low Impulse, Fear Tendencies). I’ve been working really hard on building my confidence, learning new skills, and figuring out how to navigate the world a little more smoothly. I already know some basic commands, and I love to learn, especially when food is involved! Puzzle toys and enrichment games are some of my favorite things because they let me use my brain and earn tasty rewards. I’m a smart guy, and I really enjoy having a job to do.

When I’m comfortable, my silly side really comes out. I’ll make you laugh with my goofy antics, my expressive face, and the way I lean in extra close for pets. Cuddling is hands-down my favorite activity! I’m the kind of dog who wants to be right next to you, feeling safe and loved, so I hope you like sharing your space.

Because I’m still working on my confidence and comfort levels, I’m looking for a home where I can be your one and only pet...no other dogs, please. I’d also do best in a house rather than an apartment, where I have a little more space and a calmer environment to settle into. A patient adopter who understands that I may need a little time to adjust will be the key to helping me truly thrive.

I may not be the kind of dog who rushes up to greet everyone right away, but if you give me the chance, I’ll show you just how special I am. Once we build that bond, I’ll be your loyal companion, your cuddle buddy, and your biggest fan. What do you think... ready to help me keep learning and growing, and maybe share a few (or a lot) of cuddles along the way?

Love, Gus
