Gus's Story
Today we bring you Gus' story. It's got the good, the love, the sadness, and hope.
Gus is 10 years old, and is looking for a new home. He first came to our rescue when he was just a year old. Back then, a family purchased him after their puppy was ran over by a car, then gave him to a family member, who then surrendered him to us. None of this was any fault of this sweet boy - he just didn't have the best luck to start with.

When he came to us nine years ago, he was timid, understandably so. We looked for a great home for him, and found it. A very nice family in Lincoln adopted him, and gave him a loving home for all these years. But sometimes, life can take unexpected turns. Sometimes, heartbreak happens to good people. And so it was with Gus' family. One of the boys he grew up with, suffered a life altering injury.
Now, when Gus leaps into his lap, he can cause pain by disconnecting the catheter. Or when he tries to take steps, Gus can be a tripping and falling hazard. His love and closeness with the boy he grew up with, is, heartbreakingly putting the boy and his recovery at risk. This family has been through so much, and this is not something they wanted to do. We will do our best to find Gus another loving home.

Gus is 10 years old, he weighs 30 lbs, and is up to date on his vetting. He is generally in good health and doesn't have any ongoing health issues. He is a little skittish (he can be startled by loud sound or sudden movement), but he's very well behaved and a loving boy. He is potty trained. He's also very good on the leash. Gus does well with another dog in the home, but it can take him a bit to get used to another dog. He has never been around cats.

An ideal home for Gus would be with someone loving and kind, a home that's calm and on the quiet side, as sudden, loud noises can frighten him. He likes being outdoors and enjoys the yard, so a fenced yard would be wonderful (no electric fences, please). Gus loves going for walks, so having an opportunity for a daily walk would make him happy. He has so much love to give, and we hope that, in his senior years, he can find a soft spot to land.

If you would like to adopt Gus, we invite you to complete an Adoption Application on our website, here is the link:
https://www.midwestwheatenrescue.org/adoption-info
