Gus's Story
Hi, I’m Gus – And I’m Looking for My Forever Home!

Hey there, future best friend! My name is Gus, and I’ve got a story to tell. It’s been a wild ride, but I’m ready for the happiest chapter yet—one that includes YOU.

I started out as a stray in Yuma, Arizona. Life on the streets was tough, but I kept my tail wagging and my hopes high. One day, some kind humans picked me up and took me to the Humane Society of Yuma. I thought, “This is it! My people will come for me!” So I waited... and waited... and waited. Over two months went by, but no one came. I guess my old family didn’t want me anymore. That hurt, but I didn’t give up. I knew someone out there was looking for a dog just like me.

Then, something amazing happened—I got a ticket out of Yuma! I hopped in a car and headed to Phoenix, where I’m now staying at Central Arizona Animal Rescue. It’s nice here, but what I really want is a home of my own. A cozy bed, a loving family, and maybe some treats (okay, definitely treats!).

What’s So Special About Me?

Well, first off, I’m adorable. I’m a small mixed breed with a little brindle in my coat—just enough to make me look unique and handsome. When you first meet me, I might be a little shy. I’ve been through a lot, and strangers can be scary. But give me a little time and some gentle love, and you’ll see the real me. Once I trust you, it’s game on! I’ll be your shadow, your cuddle buddy, and your biggest fan.

Right now, I share a kennel with a sweet female shepherd mix, and we get along great. So if you already have a dog, I might just be the perfect new friend for them. I’m not sure about cats, and I don’t know if I’m house-trained yet—nobody gave me a manual for that—but I’m smart and willing to learn.

The Good News?

I’m ready to go home today! I’ve been neutered, I’m up-to-date on all my vaccinations, and I’ve got a microchip so I’ll never get lost again. I’m healthy, happy, and waiting for someone to say, “Gus, you’re coming home with us!”

What Kind of Home Do I Dream About?

Because I’m a little shy and we don’t know much about my past, I think I’d do best in a quieter home with adults or older kids who understand that trust takes time. Little kids might be a bit overwhelming for me. But if you’re patient and kind, I promise I’ll give you all the love in my heart.

Why Should You Pick Me?

Because I’m worth it. I’ve been through a lot, but I never stopped believing that there’s someone out there who will love me forever. When you adopt me, you’re not just giving me a home—you’re giving me a second chance. And in return, I’ll give you loyalty, laughter, and unconditional love every single day.

Want to Meet Me?

If you think we’re meant to be, please email mike@caaronline.org to set up an appointment. Come say hi, give me a scratch behind the ears, and let’s see if we’re a perfect match.

I’ve been waiting a long time for my forever family. Maybe it’s you? I sure hope so. Let’s start our adventure together—because life is better with Gus by your side!

PLEASE e-mail (do not call) mike@caaronline.org for more information and to set up an appointment to adopt. Do not e-mail us with a request to call you, if you have a question, please ask in the e-mail.

All dogs are adopted on a first come - first served basis.

Central Arizona Animal Rescue is a not-for-profit 501(c)3 corporation.

We are located in San Tan Valley, AZ.

If you have other dogs already, you must bring them for introduction prior to adoption.

Follow us on Facebook - www.facebook.com/CentralArizonaAnimalRescue

Follow us on Instagram -
www.instagram.com/centralarizonaanimalrescue

Follow our YouTube Channel - www.youtube.com/channel/UCp43a-ycLJ2BwsgW8hu6UVg

WE DO NOT TAKE OWNER SURRENDERS - If you are looking to surrender a dog, take them to the county animal control in the county you reside in.
