Guiness's Story

A060605 Guinness; intact Labrador Retriever mix; est. 11 months; 60 lbs
Contact: Calaveras County Animal Services
(209)754-6509
Website: https://animal.calaverasgov.us/
Email: animal@calaverascounty.gov

Introducing Guinness, a gorgeous jet-black puppy with endless energy and playful joy who's just waiting for some lucky family to fall in love with him. This youngster is literally drunk on life (see what we did there), finding himself overtaken with joyful zoomies at playtime.

And talk about handsome, phew! Guinness' coat is like a void in space, it's so deeply, richly black. Accentuated with a splash of white on his chest plus a couple super adorable white toes, Guinness has got it goin' on. What breeds do you suppose are lurking in there? Lab plus... guardian dog? Shepherd? He's got some pretty good-sized paws. Mastiff? Husky? We have no idea, but we do love his expressive tail. Regardless of his heritage, it all comes together to create quite the looker.

Guinness is 60 pounds currently, but still has very busy puppy energy, so be prepared for love at full speed! He was pretty anxious when he first arrived at the shelter, and is sometimes still a bit uncertain in new situations, but once he trusted he was safe and loved, he started spazzing out with happiness. He likes to chase the ball, but hasn't yet mastered the finer points, such as the part about bringing the ball back.

When meeting other dogs, Guinness has been shy at first, but he is very interested in them and has gotten along with all the dogs he's met. We're guessing that once we have him settled in well enough to turn him loose on playdates he's going to lose his mind with delight to have doggo buddies.

Guinness is a hungry boy but he passed his food test beautifully, as well as his handling tests. He welcomes affectionate touch from human friends—if you can get him to hold still! And he likes meeting new people. However, he does jump up for attention, so older children only may be best.

While very active on leashed walkies, Guinness is not a terrible puller and he does want to please. With consistent training, plus some increasing maturity as time goes on, he has potential to be a truly lovely companion.

Guinness will need to be neutered before he can go home with you.

He's not yet potty trained.

We do not have info on his attitude toward cats at this time.

As always, a meet-and-greet is required if you have other dogs at home.
