Meet Groot

Groot is ready to share his story! ?

Hey folks, it is nice to meet you! While my story has been shared before, it wasn't me who shared it. I am hoping to build a connection with someone, and I figured the best way to do that would be to officially introduce myself!

My name is Groot and I am a 2-year-old male Border Collie mix. I weigh about 53lbs and won't be getting much bigger(if any). I have lovely brindle and white markings and am quite the handsome fellow. My story starts back in February when my first family decided that I was no longer theirs. When I ended up in the shelter, I had really hoped they would realize what they did to me. That they allowed me to end up in a kennel, day in and day out. That I no longer had a family, and only a blanket to my name. I kept thinking they would come back any day. Turns out it would be almost 3 months until I left the shelter.

I was there long enough to watch dogs come and go. I was there long enough to watch hundreds of people walk by my kennel, most not even giving me a second glance. I began to wonder if I would ever get out of the shelter. And if my adoption day would ever come. I didn't quite get the adoption day I was waiting for but I got something else. I was welcomed to this rescue's fluffy butt family. They bailed me out of doggie jail and I landed in an awesome foster home. I guess things worked out because when they took me to the vet I came out heartworm positive. So, not only did my first family fail me by allowing me to end up in the shelter, but they let worms invade my heart because they did not keep me on heartworm prevention.

Almost another three months later, I am heartworm-free and ready to find my forever family! I have had quite a journey since my family abandoned me, but I am focusing on my future. And I just know that something...or rather someone amazing is right around the corner!

I need...no I deserve an absolutely amazing family! I want to make sure I do this right so I have compiled a list of questions that I think you might have about me!

-How can someone adopt me?
The first step is to fill out an adoption app for me at https://www.pyrpawsandfluffytailsrescue.com/adoption-app
Once this app comes in, it will get sent on to my foster family and they will help me decide if we are a match or not.

-Where are you being fostered? Do I need to pick you up? Can I adopt you even if I don't live in Oklahoma?
I am being fostered in Moore, OK. Yes, you would need to pick me up. This rescue does not send us on transports. It is less stress on us that way. Plus, you and I can already start bonding on the road trip home! ? Yes, I am okay moving to a new state,

-Do I do well with strangers?
I can be a little shy. I didn't really get out much in my past life. I do warm up pretty quickly, especially once I realize you want to give me lovings!

-Do you enjoy going places?
I have been to a few public outings and have done great. With that said, please make sure I feel comfortable with you and my environment before throwing me into a super crowded noisy place. Let's start with going to more low-key places ;)

-Do you enjoy walks?
I do well on walks. I walk okay on a leash but could use some more training.

-Do you like road trips?
The few times I have ridden in the car, I have done well!

-Can I trust you to free-roam the house, even if I am away?
Yes, I am a well-behaved boy. Whenever my fosters are away, they give me free-roam of the house. At night, I like to sleep in bed with them.

-Are you potty trained? What about kennel trained?
I am potty trained. I am NOT kennel trained though since it has not been necessary for me.

-What do you like to do for fun?
I am a pretty laid back guy, which means I am not really playful. I am uninterest in playing in the water or playing fetch. I do like playing with toys, though.

-Would you do okay living in an apartment?
Yes, I think I would do just fine in an apartment setting as long as my family had a good excercise plan in place for me.

-Are you good with other dogs, cats, and kids?
I am good with other dogs. I may be a little shy, but am definitely interested in befriending them. I am not being fostered around any cats, so am unsure how I would do with them. I have been around kids as young as 5 and have done well with them.

-Is there anything else that I need to know about you? Any quirks?
I have not shown any signs of food aggression. I have also not shown to have any issues with resource guarding. I don't jump on people. Along with that, I have not shown to be a big chewer or barker in my foster home.

-Can I hear what your foster has to say about you?
"Groot is the sweetest and friendliest boy ever! He loves to cuddle and relax on the couch with his people. He’s not very active but will play with his foster siblings. The couch is his safe space and his absolute favorite place to be other than the bed! He has been absolutely perfect in our home and will do well in most households. Groot does need a sibling as he relies on them for comfort and seems to follow their lead, he’s been very submissive. He is a bit weary of men but when sitting on the couch with them he absolutely adores them! Groot has been perfect when free roaming the house and loves to sleep in the bed with us at night, he’s as close to perfect as it gets!"
____________________________________________________________________
Phew! That took longer than I thought! Hopefully, all your questions about me were answered though! Before you apply to adopt me I have a few last things that I would like to discuss!

~ My ideal family would be with pretty much any family looking for a new family member. I am a pretty chill and laid back boy. I would love a quieter home, in the sense that there are not constantly people coming in and out of the house. I wouldn't mind going on some adventures, but probably lean more on the homebody side. I would love to have another dog in my new home that I can lean on and learn from. However, if someone was home all day I would also do fine as an only dog. ~

If you fit most of the above, then fill out that app and bring me home! Because I am ready! ?

*My adoption fee is $225. That includes DHLPP, Rabies, and Bordatella shots. I will be micro-chipped, heart-worm tested, have a fecal done, be de-wormed, be spayed/neutered, and will be current on heart-worm and flea/tick prevention. It will also include my heartworm treatment.
