Grizzly's Story

I am a sweet girl with a past that has left me carrying some emotional scars. Before I came to the shelter, I lived in a home where there was a lot of abuse, especially directed toward the woman in the household. I became very protective of her because I thought it was my job to keep her safe. Over time, that environment taught me to be afraid. If someone raised their hand, I would often cower in the corner, and if I felt trapped or cornered, I wasn't afraid to defend myself. Unfortunately, those moments became part of my history. When I arrived at the shelter over a year ago, I was almost completely bald from untreated health issues. Since then, I've healed physically and have been given the chance to learn what love, patience, and kindness truly feel like. I've even spent time in a staff member's home, where they helped me adjust to life outside the shelter. Because of my past, I am not comfortable around men and would do best in a home with women. I also need a home without children, as loud play and roughhousing make me anxious because they remind me of the fighting I experienced before. I thrive in a calm, predictable environment where I know I'm safe. Once I trust you, I am incredibly loyal, affectionate, and devoted. I just need someone willing to understand that my reactions come from fear, not from who I truly am. If you're looking for a dog who will love you with her whole heart and you're willing to give me the patience I've always deserved, I promise I'll spend every day showing you just how grateful I am.
