Griffin's Story

Meet Griffin – A Loyal Companion Who Thrives with Structure
Griffin is a 5-year-old hound mix with a big personality and an independent streak. He’s cautious with new people and takes time to warm up, but once you’re in his circle of trust, he’s a devoted and affectionate companion. True to his hound nature, he loves exploring with his nose and takes his marking duties very seriously!
Griffin has a lot of energy and can be a bit of a bull in a china shop when he's excited. He loves to run, play, and burn off that energy, but once he's had his exercise, he’s happy to curl up for a nap and enjoy a good belly rub. Griffin absolutely loves going for hikes and being outside, making him the perfect adventure buddy for someone who enjoys the great outdoors!
He thrives on a consistent daily schedule that includes both mental and physical stimulation. While Griffin is still working on his leash walking, with a little consistency and patience, he’s sure to improve and become great at it. He would benefit greatly from obedience training and needs engagement from his owner to thrive and help him focus his energy.
Griffin is potty trained but needs to be monitored for marking inside the home. He gets along well with other dogs, especially female companions, and could live with the right female dog. He would enjoy a human who is active and with whom he can bond. He does not need to be in a home with children. Griffin has strong “stranger danger” instincts and needs careful introductions to new people, especially when they enter his territory.
Griffin met two cats with his current owner and was fine with small introductions, showing a calm and composed demeanor. He had no issues with food or playing with his toys regarding aggression. When he stayed with his current owner, his life was very managed, and he had to earn freedoms in the house. This approach helped him feel comfortable and learn how life should work.
Griffin thrives in a structured home with patient adopters who understand that he needs time to adjust. The first three months are crucial for building trust and setting boundaries, and some aspects of his behavior—like his protective nature with his space—will always require mindful management.
Griffin is not a dog that you would bring to a brewery or dog park, as these environments would not be fun for him. He enjoys quieter, more controlled settings where he can feel secure and comfortable.
Griffin is great at night, relaxing in a room and content resting in his own space. He’s very trusting when kept in safe, familiar situations, which helps him feel secure. He rides fantastic in the car when secured with his harness and seatbelt, making trips enjoyable for everyone. While he’s not a fan of the vet’s office, he can be managed with medication and a muzzle for nail trims and vaccinations.
If you’re looking for a dog who will truly become part of your world—and you’re willing to give him the time, patience, and structure he needs—Griffin just might be your perfect match.
