Gretel's Story

10/16: weight is 46.3 lbs Gretel is a loving and happy pup when she trusts. She is an extremely smart girl and learns quickly with repetition. She knows sit, down and wait, and is learning recall with a hand to nose touch. Gretel loves her treats and responds quite well to frequent, short training sessions with high value treats. She is slowly learning to play with toys and other dogs. She responds with excitement to repeated events but it takes her time to get there. Her drive to please and overcome her fears is huge but she must do things at a pace which allows her to learn positivity and to trust. Gretel is an extremely timid and shy girl. She has many fears and requires time and patience to overcome them. She is slowly learning to become part of a family and all that entails. Her trust has grown each day but meeting others is still a difficult process for her. She has no problems with other dogs and often follows the lead of others in the pack. Gretel is fully house trained and will retreat to her quiet spot if nervous or afraid. Gretel requires a home on the quieter side, other pups are ok and would do her best with someone willing to let her advance at her own speed with gentle pushes when she is ready or she will shut down. She has learned to allow to be touched and loves ear scratches and belly rubs. Gretel will now accept a leash and harness on and will walk in quiet areas but is often startled by noises, people and wind and looks to retreat home. She walks well with other pups but quiet is necessary, she will not yet walk by roadways with traffic and noise. She will bolt if afraid. Before leaving Cortez Rescue, Gretel will be given a full medical assessment to insure she remains in optimum health. Gretel currently lives in Baja near Cabo San Lucas.
