Gretchen's Story

How did this "old" girl end up in a shelter? Gretchen was an abandoned dog. When she entered the shelter they believed she was sick but quickly learned she was pregnant. She had a puppy that did not survive and then tried to have another but was taken to the vets to have it removed. That puppy did not survive either. Imagine, homeless and pregnant at eight years old. That equates to a 51 year old human. To add to the still births, she had pyometra and was symptomatic heart worm positive. So, she had been abandoned, sick, pregnant at her age, in a shelter, had an infected uterus, had surgery, was spayed, had heart worm and was being treated, went to our vets from the shelter went on a transport from NC to PA and then met with a new pack all within a short time. Decompression and pack introductions were not followed and she was ONCE AGAIN unwanted! Instead of assuming she was just a bad dog, we had her transported to our trainer Jeff Coltenback for evaluation....and, guess what, SHE'S AN AWESOME DOG that, with gentle love and caring, will fit into any home. She deserves placement with a family that will appreciate the gentle loving manner of a senior and will offer a non-chaotic household. Adoption of Gretchen comes with help from our trainer for her transition and a professional to refer to with specific questions about her. Reach out to us about our senior adoption program which allows our senior rescues the opportunity to know love and a family easily.

Gretchen is from Diamond Dogs Rescue

[Mount Holly, NJ]

Our Mission
Our rescue focus is on adult dogs from the southeast that are in high kill shelters.  Our plan is to fully vet as needed, evaluate and train as needed in preparation for adoption.  We place our rescues in a foster home setting to prepare our dogs for a home of their own and to determine the best match for that rescue.
