Granny's Story

Granny arrives in Colorado Saturday 2/7/2026 and needs a committed foster home or adopter to welcome her!

Granny is a 4-5 year old, small but mighty 10 pound Terrier mix who was running the streets of Texas. No, not like the mafia, running with her legs. She wasn't going to trust just anybody with a piece of burger, who knows what she's been through, so she had to be trapped. Once brought into a safe home, it took her a few days to warm up so she will need an understanding and patient adopter to allow for some decompression time. Once she's built some trust and comfy cozy, she will roll over and show you her belly. It's important that you rub that belly.

Granny is missing an eye but she isn't in any pain or require any current or future treatment. It was decided not to remove her eye as it would have been strictly for cosmetic purposes and she was already a babe who didn't need to be put through a surgery after all she's been through.

Granny loves a good snuggle under the blankets. If she is "missing," you might want to go check for a peaceful, napping Granny underneath a blanket pile. She also loves going outside and running through the tunnels at her rescuers house. A good mix of energy and chill.

Granny can live with or without dogs- she's good with other dogs but doesn't play with them. She's good with kids, crate trained, mostly potty trained and never barks. She's not super into walking on leash so she'd do best with a yard and someone willing to encourage and work on leash training so she can benefit from all the adventures a leash can lead to.

Granny is currently living in a foster home in San Antonio, Texas, awaiting an adopter or open foster home in Colorado to bring her up and into their home!

***Granny is being posted on behalf of our partner rescue in Texas- the process and adoption will go through them. The adoption fee does not include the transport fee (usually $125-200/dog).***

Red Fern Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit foster-based animal rescue in Denver that saves animals from abandonment and neglect in South Texas for new lives in Colorado. We primarily rescue dogs off the streets and from kill shelters in San Antonio.
