Gracie's Story

Gracie 4-year-old female yellow mix 50-lbs Not yet spayed
Foster or Adopter

Background.
In coordination with Labrador Retriever Rescue of Fresno, https://labrescuefresno.org/, in mid-December we received Gracie (we named her that) and her seven puppies from their central valley owner who was unable to properly care for them. The pups were born on December 5th and had been living in a wooden box in the backyard... as they were being nursed by Gracie. The puppies were weaned a week ago and we shifted Gracie to a foster to start the next chapter in her life

Mama Gracie and her 17-day-old puppies -- https://youtu.be/8T4ZKsSyPko

Mama Gracie and her seven 24-day-old puppies -- https://youtu.be/7-Gmi8ExqVE

Gracie exploring Diesel Ranch -- https://youtu.be/JWZBmDT7HSI

What Gracie's foster says.
Meet Gracie, a gentle, soulful mama dog who has done an incredible job raising her puppies and is now ready for a chapter that’s finally all about her. She is calm, affectionate, and just the right amount of velcro. She’s happy to follow you from room to room, then content to settle quietly nearby as long as she knows you’re close. Gracie truly loves people. At her vet visit she warmly greeted staff and fellow clients, winning hearts wherever she went.

She showed no reaction to other dogs or cats at the hospital, making her an easygoing and adaptable companion. Because she was separated from her puppies only recently, she may experience some separation anxiety at first and would do best with someone who can be home initially as she adjusts. With her nurturing heart, steady temperament, and deep loyalty, Gracie would thrive in a home looking for a devoted companion and a true best friend.

What Gracie's Rescue Rep says.
Truly a wonderful dog. She was an incredible nurturing mama to her seven puppies. Would do best in a home with people around a lot. Would love to have another (existing) dog in the home with her. Fine dog for a family with children. Will need guidance on how to walk on a leash -- she was likely never taken for walks before joining Lab Rescue. We initially believed Gracie was a Lab/Great Pyrenees but , boy, were we wrong. DNA analysis revealed that she is a "supermutt" -- a mix of more than ten different breeds -- wow!

Medical.
Gracie was recently seen by our vet who found her quite healthy. She is taking a regimen of antibiotics for a bacteria infection. She is current on her rabies vaccination, but will need a distemper booster shot in mid-February. Heartworm negative. Microchipped.

We plan to have her spayed in a month or so; just want to give her time to recover from nursing her puppies. She also needs to put on fifteen pounds following nursing her puppies.

Gracie is located in: Orinda.

If you want to adopt (or foster) Gracie, contact Rescue Rep Dave at david.c.ely@sbcglobal.net
