Gracie's Story
Gracie came to our rescue as a tremendously fearful dog.

We do not know her story just that she entered the rescue as a very broken dog. There are before pictures in her album.

Gracie has made tremendous progress, but still has so many nuances that need to be considered by anyone who may be interested in fostering or adopting her.

Gracie continues to grow in confidence in her home. She loves many things, including her canine foster brother, her feline foster brother, walks, car rides, and pup cups! Gracie has a very sweet temperament and is kind to everyone she meets. She enjoys the comfort of her quiet home and car. These are places where she feels the safest. When out and about, she relies on her foster person and brother for extra security because the world is a very loud and scary place (at times!). Gracie seems to be sound-sensitive to certain things: the wind and thunder, but not to others, like a vacuum! She prefers walking in quieter areas, like the woods, versus in town where things are busy and the sources and frequency of loud sounds are uncertain.

Gracie does have a crate, but it is used less and less. She loves it and will go into it on command, but her foster mom is fine having her roam in the house while she’s away. Her crate used to be her preferred sleeping spot, but that has changed to her foster mom’s bed. She can also be found nestled underneath the desk where her foster mom works.

Gracie eats well, loves snacks, and has never shown any food aggression with her foster canine pal. She likes tennis balls and bones to chew.

What does Gracie need in a forever home? A loving, calm and patient human/humans who understands that dogs, like people, have been through a lot and sometimes have special nuances that need to be respected, would be amazing! A peaceful space and a canine companion would also be comforting to her. She will need someone who is kind to her, loves routine, takes her for car rides, and will sit on the couch with her in the evening and give her some scratches as she relaxes next to you. She will also need someone who knows how important it is to keep her safe since she would run if given the chance.

Gracie is about 2 1/2 years old, she is spayed, and she’s up to date on vaccinations. Gracie is a mix of several breeds predominantly Shepherd and elk hound.
If you’re interested in hearing more about Gracie, please apply here.
