GRACE IS WAITING FOR SOMEONE SPECIAL<br/><br/>Meet Grace, a beautiful 2-year-old Goldendoodle mix, about 50 pounds, with the most gorgeous curly red coat.<br/><br/>Grace's story started in a place no dog should have to live.<br/><br/>She came from horrific hoarding conditions, surrounded by far too many dogs and without the individual love, attention, and security a dog needs. Grace learned very early that people were something to be afraid of and that staying out of the way was the safest way to get through life.<br/><br/>Then Grace came to us pregnant.<br/><br/>Still frightened and unsure of the people around her, she gave birth to her babies and raised them. She did everything she needed to do for them.<br/><br/>Now her job as a mama is finished.<br/><br/>This time, it gets to be about Grace.<br/><br/>Grace is a quiet, sensitive girl who is still figuring out this whole "people are safe" thing.<br/><br/>She's made progress since coming into foster care. She allows us to pet her; she's learning the routines of living in a home, and little by little, we're learning what makes her feel safe.<br/><br/>One of those places is my elderly father's bed.<br/><br/>She'll climb up, curl into the blankets, and sleep beside him. There isn't a lot of interaction between them—and that's okay. He's quiet. The room is calm. Nobody is asking anything from her.<br/><br/>For Grace, that's enough to let her relax.<br/><br/>And then there are dogs.<br/><br/>This is where we get to see a completely different Grace.<br/><br/>Grace LOVES our dogs.<br/><br/>She wants to be with them, and when one of them engages with her, she absolutely LIGHTS UP!! There's happiness and excitement in her that we don't always get to see when she's navigating the much scarier world of humans.<br/><br/>Watching those moments makes us believe there is so much more of Grace waiting to come out.<br/>That's why another friendly, confident dog isn't simply preferred for Grace.<br/><br/>SHE NEEDS ONE<br/><br/>Another dog gives her security, confidence, companionship, and an example to follow. We truly believe the right canine friend will be one of the biggest pieces in helping Grace discover what life in a family can be.<br/><br/>Now we need to find the human willing to give her the rest.<br/><br/>Not someone who expects Grace to become a different dog overnight.<br/><br/>Not someone with a timeline for when she should want affection or when she should stop being afraid.<br/><br/>Grace needs someone who can give her an entire **HOME** that feels as safe as that quiet bed does.<br/><br/>GRACE NEEDS:<br/><br/>— A friendly, confident dog in the home <br/>— A securely fenced yard <br/>— An adult-only home with no children <br/>— A quieter, predictable environment <br/>— Someone with patience, realistic expectations, and a very gentle heart<br/><br/>Grace is still frightened by quick or unpredictable movements. She will need time to learn a new home and new people, and we can't promise how quickly her confidence will grow.<br/><br/>But here's what we do know.<br/><br/>She's only two.<br/><br/>She has so much life ahead of her.<br/><br/>Grace probably won't be the dog who meets you and immediately convinces you to adopt her.<br/><br/>She may be the one standing back while another dog gets all your attention.<br/><br/>She may not come running when you walk into the room.<br/><br/>She may not know how to show you that she needs you.<br/><br/>SO THIS TIME, GRACE NEEDS SOMEONE TO CHOOSE HER FIRST.<br/><br/>Someone who can look past what fear has taught her to be and see the young dog underneath it.<br/><br/>Because she's only two.<br/><br/>She has years and years ahead of her to discover couches and treats and sunny afternoons in the yard.<br/><br/>To have another dog become her best friend.<br/><br/>To recognize the sound of her person's footsteps coming through the door.<br/><br/>To have a favorite bed, a favorite room, and a favorite spot in a home that finally belongs to her.<br/><br/>To discover that hands can be gentle.<br/><br/>That people can be patient.<br/><br/>That home can mean safe.<br/><br/>And maybe someday, being afraid won't be the first thing on her mind.<br/><br/>Grace survived the hoarding.<br/><br/>She came into rescue carrying babies.<br/><br/>She brought them into the world and raised them.<br/><br/>She's done everything that was asked of her.<br/><br/>Now we're asking someone to do something for Grace.<br/><br/>Give her time.<br/><br/>Give her another dog to love.<br/><br/>Give her a peaceful home.<br/><br/>Give her the freedom to become whoever she is underneath all that fear.<br/><br/>Grace doesn't need someone to save her.<br/><br/>She needs someone willing to give her the time to discover who she is when she finally feels safe.<br/><br/>Somewhere out there is Grace's person.<br/><br/>Maybe they weren't planning on adopting a dog like Grace.<br/><br/>Maybe they'll simply read her story, see those beautiful eyes, and feel something they can't quite explain.<br/><br/>And maybe they'll realize that while they've been looking for their dog...<br/><br/>Grace has been waiting for them, too.<br/> <br/><br/>If you would like to be considered as a potential adopter for one of our great dogs, please go to our website- (SEE PINNED POST) and submit an application. Our application process includes landlord approval and vet checks. Please make sure all of your information is current and accurate, including a valid email address and phone numbers. Inaccuracies and/or incomplete data will delay and/or cancel your application. We strive to process all applications in a timely manner, but with the high volume of applications we are receiving, it is taking anywhere from 1-3 weeks. You may be contacted via email if there are concerns or questions. Once all of your information is reviewed and if your application is approved, you will be notified via email. Submitting an application and receiving an approval does not guarantee you will be adopting the dog you applied for. Once you move to the meet and greet process, you will be contacted by the foster family to further discuss the dog, and answer questions you may have, and if applicable, a meet and greet will be set up at our adoption center. Meet and greets are only set up with approved applicants, and we require all members in the household to be present, as well as any current dogs in the home. Meet and greets take place at our adoption center located in New Berlin. If you are proceeding with adopting a Lucky Mutt, we will require the dog to have a Martingale collar at the time of adoption, to ensure the dogs safety during the transition to a new home. <br/><br/>Current Adoption Fees Are:<br/>$425+tax for puppies to 3 years old<br/>$375+tax for ages 4-7<br/>$275+tax for ages 8 and up<br/>Bonded pairs vary<br/><br/>The adoption fee covers spay/neuter, up to date age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, general deworming, heartworm test, (if over 6 months) and a certified veterinary inspection. Please be aware, listed dog breeds are based on information provided and cannot be guaranteed. Submitting an application for a particular dog does not guarantee that you will be the applicant chosen, we receive several applications for each dog. Our adopters are picked based on the needs of the dog, and the home we feel with best fit based on your responses to our application, vet information and landlord requirements. Approved applicants not chosen for the dog you applied for, will be in active status for a period of six months. We encourage you to watch Petfinder, Facebook and our website for upcoming dogs.
