His story is a sad one – but you can give it a happy ending! Goosifer was discovered wandering in March and needed to be live-trapped. He was scared, emaciated, and had a broken front leg. With shelters as overwhelmed as they are right now, his future was very uncertain – but Goosifer quickly won over the shelter staff and they fought hard for him. Goosifer spent over three months at the shelter, getting weekly splint changes, with everyone holding out hope that his leg would heal enough for him to survive.

Goosifer was an absolute champ and his leg started to slowly heal. Speak! for the Unspoken was able to step in and get him out of the shelter to finish healing in a home. He is adjusting well to his new setting, but he is a shy boy. Fast movements will make him startle and bark and he seems to have more fear of men. Moving slowly and giving him time to get to know you is very important. But it's worth every moment when he decides that you are a safe person – then he becomes an absolute doll who never wants to leave your side, will lean on you so hard for scratches that you fall over, and sleep so soundly by you that he snores. If you've really won him over, he will spread himself on his back so that you can get to all the good spots on his tummy for the most important scritches.

Goosifer is being fostered in a family with two kids and two other dogs. He is enjoying being part of a family and has been an excellent house guest. If the kids move too fast, he will do his growling and barking but that has lessened every day. He leaves the dogs to themselves (except when they get in between him and someone he wants to pet him, in which case he forgets that he's 146 pounds and just shoves them out of the way). Goosifer has the usual mastiff tendencies – there is a lot of drool (though mostly just when there is food around), he can't keep water in the water bowl, and it's a bit like having a small horse around.

Because Goosifer needs time to build trust, his adoption will require multiple meetings before he goes home. For that reason, a family within a reasonable driving distance may be the best fit for him.

If you think you might be Goosifer's forever home, fill out an application to meet him!

***PLEASE READ*** WE DO NOT RESPOND TO PETFINDER OR EMAIL INQUIRIES. Please fill out an application on our website if you are interested in adopting this dog. We will only set up a meeting with the dog once you have an approved adoption application. Speak for the Unspoken's Adoption Policy
Before completing our online application please read the following: Our adoption process involves multiple steps and it typically takes up to 2 weeks from the time we receive your application to the time your adoption is finalized. We reserve the right to deny any application without explanation. All of our dogs and/or puppies are in foster homes. We do not schedule “Meet and Greets” without an approved application. Our Adoption Fees start at $325 per dog, $75 per cat or kitten. We can adopt an animal ‘out of state’, but you must be willing to travel to where the pet is being fostered, and transport the animal yourself after the adoption. If you have other animals (dogs/cats) in your home, they must be up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm testing and prevention (dogs), and spayed/neutered. We will verify this with your veterinarian. If your animals are not up to date, your application will be denied. Please make sure to fully complete your application; leaving questions blank or not including all requested information will delay your application. Once your online application is submitted, it can take our volunteers 5 to 7 business days to process it. If we have questions about your application, we will email you. Please make sure to add our email, adopt@speakfortheunspoken.com to your email so our messages do not end up in your spam folder! Once your application is approved by the processors, it is sent to the person fostering the dog you have applied for. They will make the decision on whether the animal that you applied for is the right fit for you and your home. They may also choose to initially contact you via email or phone. If you do not respond promptly to their email or phone call, they will move on to the next applicant. Your application will be saved on file for 1 year and will be used for all dogs you would be interested in that time-frame. No need to keep filling out applications! Adoption application approval means you are approved to adopt an animal from us, it does not mean you are necessarily approved for the animal you applied for. There may be specific circumstances in your home that do not make it a good fit for one animal, but it may be a fine fit for another.
