Goosifer was discovered wandering in the Kalamazoo, MI area in March and needed to be live-trapped. He was scared, emaciated, and had a broken front leg. With shelters as overwhelmed as they are right now, his future was very uncertain – but Goosifer quickly won over the shelter staff and they fought hard for him. Speak! for the Unspoken was able to step in and get him out of the shelter to finish healing in a home. He spent six months getting weekly splint changes to allow his leg to heal and is finally physically ready to be adopted.<br/><br/>Mentally, Goosifer still has aways to go and he will need a special and patient adopter. Mastiffs are known for being guard dogs and protecting their people, and Goosifer is a prime example. He will have his one person and he will guard that person to the best of his ability. Goosfier warms most quickly to women and he is afraid of men. He is okay with the children in his home but does not like when other children are in the house. Because of this, he needs a home with women only or a home where the adopters are willing to work with him extensively to get him comfortable. He will need a more calm house that does not have a lot of guests. We would like his potential adopter to be able to visit him a few times in Portage, MI to get to know him before any adoption is finalized.<br/><br/>Moving slowly and giving him time to get to know you is very important. It's worth every moment when he decides that you are a safe person – then he becomes an absolute doll who never wants to leave your side, will lean on you so hard for scratches that you fall over, and sleep so soundly by you that he snores.
