Gladys's Story

~DOB: 11/1/2023
Weight: 65 lbs
Energy Level: Moderate
Overall Drive: Moderate, Moderate – High prey
Location: Camp Connell, CA
Meet Gladys Three legs. Whole lotta heart.
Gladys is a resilient, beautiful girl who has already overcome more than most dogs ever will. She was found as a stray with a severely injured leg and open, infected fractures that left no choice but amputation. And you know what? She bounced back like an absolute champ. Gladys recovered beautifully and is now thriving. She is confident, happy, and ready for her forever home.
Gladys would be perfect for an active home that enjoys regular exercise but also values downtime. Give her food, water, daily activity, and something good to chew, and she’s content as can be.
Personality-wise, Gladys is shy at first, but once she knows she’s safe, her true self comes out. Most of the time she’s calm and relaxed, but when she’s excited? Total wiggly monster. She’s affectionate, cuddly, and has zero concept of personal space once she’s invited onto the couch. One of her favorite pastimes is crawling under a desk and popping her head out for attention, or draping herself halfway off the couch like a piece of modern art.
Gladys does well on walks and is generally reserved with strangers, happily observing from a distance. She has a moderate to moderately high prey drive, so caution is advised around small animals. She’s had a couple of tense encounters with other dogs in unexpected situations, so slow, thoughtful introductions and continued guidance are important.
She’s excellent in the car, outstanding at the vet, and sensitive to loud noises. Harsh corrections scare her, but a calm, firm “no” works well. She’s house trained, learning her manners, and still polishing skills like sit, wait, and come. Crate training is a work in progress, mostly because she strongly prefers sleeping with her people.
Gladys’ dream home is quiet to moderately active, with regular exercise, older kids (if any), and possibly another medium-to-large dog. Bonus points if there’s snow because running through it is her absolute favorite thing.
