GIGI $425's Story
Meet Gigi...a 2-year-old, now 50 pound Shepherd mix

Gigi’s story takes a dramatic turn on the day her previous owner took her for a walk and stopped in front of what would become her foster home. She saw the family’s dogs playing in the yard and casually asked if they “wanted another,” offering to leave Gigi on the spot—no questions, no vetting, no preparation. Thankfully, the foster said yes, because that single moment changed Gigi’s entire life. It’s scary to imagine what kind of yard she may have ended up in if they hadn’t stepped up for her.

When Gigi arrived, she was in rough shape. She was VERY dirty—taking ten baths, including three flea baths, before she was clean. Beneath all the grime, her fosters found a timid, fragile girl who weighed only about 35 pounds. Eating wasn’t something she knew how to do confidently; she’d take a few hesitant bites and then move aside. With gentle encouragement and routine, Gigi learned that meals were safe, consistent, and hers. She has since gained around 15 pounds and continues working toward a fully healthy weight.

Emotionally, she had just as much to learn. Gigi spent her first days keeping her distance—curling up in corners or sitting as far away from people as possible. Her fosters patiently sat on the floor with her, inching closer, showing her she was wanted and safe. They carefully lifted her onto the couch so she could learn that cuddles were for her too. Now, she hops up next to her people on her own, still with a gentle little slink as if checking, Am I really allowed? She is trying so hard, and every day she grows braver.

Once Gigi began to decompress, her personality and surprising skills started to shine. She is clever—she can open latch-style baby gates (ask her fosters how she pulled that off!), and she even figured out the fridge water dispenser. She knows “sit,” “lay down,” and “come,” and though she’s still polishing them, she tries her best. She responds to her name beautifully when she’s alone. Mealtime is where she really shines: she knows exactly which spot is hers and respects the other dogs’ boundaries. Gigi is also a lovely walker, staying close to her foster’s side and pulling only minimally. And for fun, she occasionally “moos” at her people—yes, actually moos. She’s quite the conversationalist.

Potty training has been going wonderfully, and Gigi has been accident-free for several weeks. Outside, she spends most of her time racing around and playing with her foster brothers. The yard is big, giving her plenty of space to zoom, explore, and burn off happy energy as she continues learning good habits.

Gigi currently lives with two larger dogs, a rat, and a 12 year old, but has done great with vistors of all ages. She plays beautifully with the resident dogs and did great during her intake meet-and-greet with small dogs. She is gentle, curious, and learning how wonderful it is to just be a dog.

Gigi has already come so far, and she is still blossoming. She is sweet, silly, sensitive, and deeply eager to bond with her people. Her forever family will gain a loyal, affectionate companion who has overcome a difficult beginning and is now ready to experience joy, safety, and love. Whoever welcomes Gigi into their home will be incredibly lucky.

If you would like to be considered as a potential adopter for one of our great dogs, please go to our website- (SEE PINNED POST) and submit an application.
