Gertie's Story

Gertie is the most enthusiastic people-greeter we've ever seen! She loves to love, she's giddy to get to know you, and she can hardly wait to say hello! This young female mixed breed is ready and waiting to say "look out world, here I come!" and begin her new life with you. Smart, inquisitive, lively, and loads of fun, she will make a wonderful addition to an active family. She may be house trained, enjoys playing with toys, and gets a kick out cuddling, but her favorite thing is just to be with you wherever you are. Gertie likely was not the center of anyone's attention in her previous life, and she's keen to change that! Medium-sized, around 8-10 months old, and with a sleek low-maintenance coat, she's the go-anywhere, do-anything companion you've been looking for.

More pictures and info to come as we get to know her better. Gertie will be spayed soon.

*Approved applicants are welcome to participate in our popular Slumber Party program and take a dog home for up to 2 weeks to make sure she is a great fit.

If you think you might be interested in adopting, your first step should be to complete an Adoption Application at www.caninerescue.org. *After you have completed your application, you will get a confirmation that we have received your application. It takes a lot of time to process the applications, so we ask for your patience while we do so. If you see that the dog you were interested in has been adopted it means there were many applications for that dog and we did not get as far processing your application before a home was found. We welcome you to apply again when you see another dog that interests you.

Not sure if you are ready to adopt? Please consider applying to foster Gertie, which will lead to a happily ever after adoption, either with you, or the family you help get her ready for! Fostering is an incredibly rewarding experience. Learn more and apply on our website, under the “Get Involved” tab.

If you have a question, please email us at adoptions@caninerescue.org. It is much easier and quicker for us to respond by email, as we receive many phone calls.

We do adopt out of state, however we do not transport or ship dogs. Potential adopters must be able and willing to travel to the Rescue to meet the dog they are interested in.

*PLEASE double check all of the phone numbers that you provide. If they are incorrect, we will not be able to process your application. Please also let your references know that someone from NCCR will be calling them. Most adoption team members call from their personal phone, so advise your references that there may be an unknown or private number calling them. Thank you!
