Gertie's Story

Gertie is a gentle, quiet senior lady who prefers the simple life. At around 45 lbs, she carries herself with a calm, low-key presence and tends to keep to herself, happily observing the world from a cozy spot nearby-or, even better, from her favorite spot in the yard. She cohabitates peacefully with both dogs and cats, making her an easy addition to a mellow home.

Gertie walks nicely on leash, though she can be a bit skittish and will thrive with a patient, understanding adopter who can help her feel safe and secure. She isn't the kind of dog who seeks out attention or wants to be everyone's best friend. Instead, she's content to quietly exist alongside her people, earning comparisons to a cat with her independent nature and appreciation for personal space.

She's not one to demand affection, but she'll happily accept a treat, a kind word, and a peaceful home where she can simply be herself. If you're looking for a low-maintenance companion who values quiet companionship over constant cuddles, Gertie might just be your perfect match.

Big Paws of the Ozarks's Adoption Policy
All adopters must fill out an application on our website with all necessary information. From there, our staff will conduct a phone interview and answer any questions regarding the dog or the adoption process. Once approved, a meet and greet is scheduled with the family, dog, and dog's foster family. This is the time where other pets can be introduced. If the meet and greet goes well, we can send the dog in a trial adoption for a few days to make sure it is a perfect fit for everyone. From there the adoption is finalized through payment of the adoption fee and transferring of vet records.
