Georgie's Story

If you have ever loved a senior dog, you know that's it's sort of like riding an old, but faithfully fun roller coaster. It feels comfortable and fun, but has that drop always been that far down?

Georgie is approximately 12+ years old. When he came to Family Addition Dog Rescue of Charlotte he was 10lbs, dehydrated, not neutered, limping, deaf, had a fused kneecap on the side of his leg, had bad skin, a rotted mouth and a heart issue. Those were just the issues we could immediately see.

He has been here for just over 1 month. In that time we've been able to start meds for his mouth & his heart, put some weight on him (13.9lbs now!), get him hydrated and give him only the best love. He has shown that he likes only the softest blankies to sleep on if he cannot sit on your lap, acts like you are the absolute center of his entire world and likes only the finest of dog foods. He always looks like he's woken up from the best nap and has no idea how long he's been asleep. Did I nap for 5 minutes or 5 years!?

Georgie is house trained, walks well on a leash, good with dogs, good with kids, good with cats and because he's deaf is GREAT with loud noises. He doesn't seem to know how to bark preferring instead to mimic a screaming goat at the backdoor when he's ready to come inside. He doesn't let his fused kneecap slow him down choosing to leap off any surface he is on like a graceful acrobat from Cirque du Soleil.

Georgie is comfortable. He will require maintenance for the remainder of his life. He is currently on lasix, monthly clindamycin and a daily heart medication. Clyndamycin and the heart meds are lifetime meds. He is not a candidate for anesthesia for the dental or to be neutered. The antibiotic is used to keep the bacteria in his mouth from causing further issues. We have the signs to watch for for when it becomes Georgie's time to cross over. Dr. Drake has said that it could be his time in a few years with the right maintenance or it could be months. We just don't know, but will hopefully know more when his course of Lasix is complete.

Currently, Georgie is a hospice foster. He is the bestest boy who only deserves the best. At Family Addition, we have chosen to also seek out what could be his furever home with someone who could offer him even more love than he is getting right now. Family Addition will be incredibly picky about any family seeking to give Georgie his hospice adoption. You will have to be able to enjoy a snuggly lap/couch potato, give scritches and scratches whenever he asks, maintain his medication schedule, give him the boujiest food and make him as comfortable as possible for the rest of his days.

An adoption fee of $250 includes vaccinations, spay/neuter, microchip, flea and heartworm preventatives if appropriate, and all necessary medical costs while in our care.

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please email Familyadditiondogrescue@gmail.com to request an application. **We typically respond within a few hours. If you do not receive an email back within 24 hours please be sure to check your junk/spam folder.**
