Gemma and Nora's Story
Nora and Gemma are two adorable terrier mixes - Nora is approx. 1 year old, Gemma is 2. Nora weighs 10#, Gemma 9#. Both love attention and are always looking for a lap or just a pet from the people around them. They are besties and love to play with each other, sleep together, snuggle with their person at the same time. They do everything together, and that is why we want to adopt them together. Gemma and Nora currently live in a foster home with 3 small senior dogs and two cats (if you have a cat's litter box in your house, you need to isolate it from the dogs ..... or they will raid it for unapproved treats). Prior to coming to Second Chance, they lived with 16 other dogs , 1 cat, and several birds, and didn't get much training/attention. It would be best for them to be in a home where they can continue to learn and continue to build their confidence with someone that has some dog experience. They are eager to learn and being very treat motivated is a real plus. A clicker has been used for the come command and is working beautifully - they come running back to you every time they hear a clicker and "come" command. The other commands they are working on is "off" and "leave it". They haven't been on walks yet and will need to be introduced wearing a harness and walking on a leash. A secure yard is a requirement for adoption. Everything is new to Gemma and Nora; it's a joy to watch them learn and see new things every day.

When their foster mom is a work, they stay in a bedroom with 2 other dogs. Once in a new home, kennel training would be a must for the girls to get them housebroken. They were pee-pad trained at their original home but not reliably housebroken. If you take them out first thing when they wake up, just before bedtime, and every 3 hours between, they will be mostly housebroken but will still need a pad down for emergencies (and for use overnight). They don't have a signal when they need to go out. An open-wire kennel will give them a safe place while you are away. Both love toys - they need tough toys that they can chew on. Gemma will even play fetch with a Frisbee and will retrieve it so you can throw it again for her. Might chew on papers if they are left within reach - if they carry a shoe around, they are just showing off and don't chew on it. They only tend to bark at people and dogs that go by when they are outside - will come running to you if you click their clicker. Nora and Gemma have been to a couple meet-and-greets and just need a slow introduction to both adults and kids (and with cats, if you have any). Any kids in their adoptive home should be respectful 12 years and up. Nora and Gemma didn't get much socialization in their original home so they are a little behind. They both enjoy attention, and after a play session will come in and jump on the sofa next to their person to cuddle and give kisses. They both ride well in the car. Good appetites, but they do NOT like Salmon dog food.

A message from Nora and Gemma.
To our new family we promise to bring a smile to you every day. We will love you forever. We also will try to be on our best behavior.
Love, Gemma and Nora.

Both girls are spayed, and current on distemper and rabies vaccinations. The 4 DX tests are both negative. Nora has 15 missing teeth - she is able to pick things up and she eats just fine. Both have microchips registered to Second Chance. The pair must be adopted together, NOT to be split up later. Their adoption fee is $500/pair. Call 651-771-5662 if you are interested in these sweet girls.
