Gemma's Story

Gemma, a Chocolate Lab Mix, has just arrived in rescue and we are still getting to know her. She is living in a foster home with a senior dog and, while disappointed that he doesn't want to play much, she is being respectful of his wishes and his role as master of the household.

Adoption Application: https://www.fetchinretrieversrescue.org/adopt-a-dog/

Gemma had a rough time when she was brought into a local shelter as a stray. Much to the surprise of the staff, she was pregnant with five puppies, only one of which survived. They spayed her and estimated her age to be between 2 1/2 and 3 years.

She is easy to walk on leash and has some skin issues that need attention. She appears to be housetrained, but accidents can happen when a dog moves to a new home, so patience and understanding will be needed. She is underweight, so we aren't sure if the counter surfing she likes to do is because she is hungry or if it's a long term behavior that will require management and retraining.

We need more time with Gemma to get a better sense of her personality so she isn't ready to go to her forever home yet, but we'll keep updating her bio as she settles in. So far she is proving to be a sweet, easy going girl.
