Gaspar's Story
Meet Gaspar – A Sweet Boy Who Just Needs Someone to Go at His Speed!

Sometimes the biggest victories come from the smallest steps.

Meet Gaspar, a sweet, gentle, playful little boy who is learning that the world doesn't have to be such a scary place!

Gaspar came into rescue from a shelter in Mexico. While we don't know everything about his past, we do know that he's a sensitive boy who needs patience, understanding, and time to feel safe.

His foster describes him perfectly:

"All he needs is someone to go the speed of Gaspar."

And that's exactly what this special boy deserves!

A Little Boy Learning to Trust

When Gaspar first arrived in his foster home, he was extremely frightened. His crate became his safe place, and he wasn't ready to explore or interact.

But slowly, he began making progress.

Day 4: Gaspar felt comfortable enough to leave his crate and relax in the same room as his foster family.

Day 5: He started playing with the other dogs!

After one week: He finally allowed his foster to put a leash on him.

One of his foster's favorite moments happened when a tennis ball rolled past Gaspar while he was watching the other dogs play.

Suddenly, his tail started wagging, his little butt started wiggling, and HE POUNCED!

Before long, Gaspar was running around with the other dogs, getting the zoomies and enjoying himself.

His foster said:

"It was the first time I saw him act like the carefree pup he deserves to be."

That's the Gaspar we're hoping his forever family will get to see more often!

Gaspar's Personality

Once he feels comfortable, Gaspar is playful, curious, goofy, and affectionate.

He has a medium energy level and enjoys:

- Playing with other dogs
- Chasing tennis balls
- Plush toys and chew bones
- Sniffing and exploring
- Getting the zoomies
- Cozy blankets and soft pillows
- Napping and watching TV with his people

Gaspar is food and toy motivated and already knows "Sit" and "Crate."

He may take several days to become comfortable with new people and surroundings. He can be frightened by sudden movements, loud noises, and unfamiliar situations.

But once he trusts you, his foster says he becomes a loving companion who wants to be close to his people.

Training & Important Considerations

Crate Training: Gaspar is crate trained, and his crate is his safe place. He needs a family who will respect that space and never force him out.

Potty Training: Gaspar is not yet house trained. He's currently doing well using pee pads while he builds confidence with going outdoors.

Leash Training: Gaspar is very fearful of having a leash put on and is not yet comfortable with normal outdoor walks. He needs patient, gradual, positive leash training.

IMPORTANT: Gaspar can slip out of improperly secured walking equipment. His adopters must use properly fitted, escape-resistant equipment and appropriate safety precautions.

Separation Anxiety: Gaspar has shown some separation anxiety tendencies and will benefit from gradual, positive training to help him feel comfortable being alone.

Dogs, Cats & Kids

Dogs: Gaspar LOVES other dogs! Playing with his canine foster siblings has helped him build confidence. Another calm, friendly, compatible dog could be a wonderful addition to his life.

Cats: Gaspar currently coexists well with cats!

Kids: Gaspar has been reported to do well with children. However, because he's easily frightened, a calm household with children who understand and respect his boundaries would be best.

Gaspar's Perfect Home

Gaspar needs a **calm, patient, understanding family** who will allow him to adjust at his own pace.

His ideal adopters will provide a quiet environment, consistent routines, a safe place to retreat, and plenty of positive encouragement.

They must also be prepared to continue his potty training, leash training, and confidence building.

Gaspar isn't the kind of dog who will immediately run into your arms.

He may spend his first few days watching from the safety of his crate.

But with time, patience, and love, his wonderful personality begins to shine.

Gaspar doesn't need someone who will rush him. He needs someone who will believe in him.

Foster Location

Onalaska, WI

Gaspar's foster is not available to travel for meet-and-greets.

Could You Be Gaspar's Person?

Gaspar's foster says:

"Gaspar overall is a great dog, he truly just needs someone who will give him the time and place to show it."

Gaspar has already shown us that underneath his fear is a happy, playful little boy who wants to enjoy life.

He just needs someone willing to celebrate the small victories, respect his boundaries, and give him the time he needs to trust.

If you have a calm home, a patient heart, and room in your life for a sensitive little companion, Gaspar may be exactly the boy you've been waiting for!

Ready to meet Gaspar?
