Garrett's Story
ABOUT GARRETT
Are you looking for a lovable, goofy, and social pup? Meet Garrett! This handsome ham is a 1-year-old terrier mix who loves everyone and everything. Garrett came to HAP after he was found abandoned. We did our best to locate his previous owner, but sadly, no one came forward. Despite the uncertainty he's faced, Garrett remains one of the happiest pups in our care. He settled in quickly, winning hearts with his affectionate personality and playful spirit from day one. In addition to being a bundle of joy, he is also super smart and food-motivated. Garrett is already crate-trained, knows basic commands, and appears house-trained. He has done well in doggy playgroup, though Garrett does not like to share toys/food around other dogs, so we'd recommend he be your only dog at home. However, he'd probably love some doggy playdates with friends or family pets! He would thrive with an active family to keep him busy and provide lots of love! To help meet his need for adventure, Garrett has participated in our Doggy Day Out program. Here's what a few volunteers had to say about him:

"Today I took Garrett out for DDO. He was so precious and so sweet. At first I thought he was gonna have insane energy because he was a little crazy getting into the car, but he was just excited. He calmed down once we started moving. We got back to my house and went on a little mile long walk. After that we laid down on the couch to watch tv where he just wanted belly rubs and occasionally got up to explore. I gave him a pup cup and a lick mat as a yummy treat. He was the best!!" - Monica

"I had the pleasure of taking out Garrett, aka the cutest copilot in the car! We took a long walk mixed with running for a total of 4.5 miles and I swear he could've kept going! He's a really good running buddy and seemed to thoroughly enjoy it! He mildly pulls on the leash because he's so excited but is easily directed, and he didn't bat an eye at people or bikes going by. Squirrels and a dog barking at us through a fence peaked his interested but he got over them quickly. And have you seen those bouncy ears! He's just so so sweet and ready to thrive in an active home!" - Allison

"Yesterday I had Garrett again and we had an amazing DDO! He continued to bring such energetic, happy, and loving energy into my home. Since he might not get a lot of sleep at the shelter, we decided to have a chill and relaxed Sunday. We went on a few walks, took a nap, and shared lots of laughs. Garrett will jump and hug you or lick your face whenever he gets the chance, and it's so cute! He is one of the most well-behaved dogs I have ever seen in a car. He has no problem getting in, waiting to get out, and sitting patiently until we arrive at our destination! We finished the day off with a little pup cup treat for Garrett!" - Danielle

"I took Garrett on a much needed DDO today! He can be a bit mouthy when in close quarters like trying to put the seatbelt on in the car or if he thought I had a treat in my hand, but he didn't bite his leash at all. Initially in the car, he tried to jump to the front seat but was pretty calm the rest of trip. He has a ton of energy that he needed to get out! Garrett is very treat motivated and does very well with with the commands he's been taught, like sit and paw, though he does occasionally try to jump for the treat. He was interested in meeting passerbys and especially tried to see other dogs, but never barked (even if it they barked at him). Garrett has no problem walking up and down stairs. I got him a collagen braid and he carried it around for a long while before settling down to eat it. Garrett definitely calmed down and was a great boy after getting some energy out, so I think more time out of the shelter would do him wonders! I think he would make a great running buddy." - Jade

If you are interested in adopting this dog, please submit an adoption questionnaire!
