Garland's Story

Garland, an 9-month-old 50-pound female Transylvania Hound mix, came in as an owner surrender, along with her sister Twinkle. She is not fixed yet. Both girls entered the shelter in so much fear that they were paralyzed when away from each other. Since spending more time with staff, they have absolutely blossomed and have become social and friendly towards everyone. They still get a little afraid when they feel trapped or when someone moves too quickly around them, but they are getting better at this.

Both girls only know the life of a farm and have never experienced different social environments. They will both probably always be more comfortable in a farm environment. They were allowed to free roam, however, it was reported by a neighbor that they may have both been the culprit to a recent chicken heist, but no definitive proof in this accusation. They both have experience living with ducks, pigs and horses. It is not a requirement both Garland and Twinkle are adopted together, but they could be.

The adoption fee of $100 is a refundable deposit. The adopter will be responsible to have the animal spayed or neutered within 90 days at the clinic of their choosing. If this is completed within the required 90 days the adopter is to submit required documentation that includes a spay/neuter certificate, a receipt for the spay/neuter, and a rabies certificate to get their refund of up to the deposited amount. Spay and Neuter is required for adoption per our adoption contract and by Indiana State Law. We accept cash, card (with a 3% charge), and check.

All dogs receive at least 1 distemper/parvo and Bordetella vaccine. If possible a heartworm test will be done and if negative the dog will be started on heartworm prevention. All animals receive a flea and parasite prevention/treatment and will be microchipped.

All animals can go home the same day as adoption. We will need your photo ID and you will sign some documents. Adopters will also receive a copy of the animal's medical history to date. We do not do an application process. All adoptions are first come, first serve. We do not offer holds.

We do not require in most cases that adopters bring all their families members and dogs for a meet and greet. But we do highly encourage it. We are happy to introduce the new dog to your dog(s) at the shelter. No appointment necessary.

We do offer home trials of dogs over 6 months of age for about a week. You will not need to pay the adoption fee (spay neuter deposit) ahead of time, but if you decide to adopt you will need to return to the shelter to complete the paperwork and pay the adoption deposit. If you do not wish to complete the adoption, you can bring the dog back at any time during normal business hours during your home trial period. We do not allow after hours drop off.

The adoption process is fairly simple. We do have a few requirements for adopters, but nothing that should make the adoption process impossible. -Adoption fees can be paid for by cash, check, or card. There is a 3% charge for card transactions. -Holds are not accepted, all adoptions are first-come, first-served -If you have another dog at home, bring them along if you wish for us to do a dog intro (some of the dogs in our care will require a dog intro) -All cats must leave in a carrier. You may purchase one from us for $20. The carrier we sell is soft-sided fabric that is collapsible -Currently, any animal that is already spayed or neutered has a FREE adoption fee. -Currently, any animal that is NOT already spayed or neutered has a deposit fee that is required to be paid at the time of adoption. The adopter will be required to get the pet spayed or neutered within 90 days of adoption. If done and documents are returned to us, the adopter will get their deposit refunded. -Any donations above and beyond are always welcome! We use donation money to spay and neuter before adoption, vaccinate, treat basic illness and injuries, and so much more! We encourage and allow home trials at no cost.
