Meet Garbanzo
In Sept 2023 Garbanzo's owners got rid of this beautiful dog by tying him up to a fence in Manhattan and they walked away.
He was brought to the New York Animal Cares Center, the NYC municipal shelter where he was languished and was so stressed out. H was soon listed for euthanasia and his life almost ended there.
An amazing person person saw through his fear and saved his life and is fostering him.
He is now ready for adoption.

Good with dogs/cats: unknown
Good with kids: I think 10 and up just because he can be mouthy and hyper. He has been with my 13 year old step son and there has been no issues.
On leash: he walks well. He sometimes gets burst of energy but he does not really pull and for the most part walks by your side
Off leash: in the yard he LOVES to play fetch with squeaky balls
In the house: in the home he definitely likes to be by your side, but also settles down nicely in his cage when he needs to. He plays with his toys and bones, and will often look to interact and play with you. He has not been destructive in the home when left alone the few times he has been.
Behavior: Garbanzo is a super fun and playful boy and will typically match your energy. If you're in the yard and want to play, he will fetch forever. If you want to just hang out on the couch, he keeps himself busy with his bones. He takes treats gently. Sometimes when excited he'll jump on people but he is getting better with that as we continue to work with him on it. He also very much likes to "talk" by way of a growl/howl/bark - we call them grumbles. He does this when he is excited, it is completely playful.
Food: He is eating mostly dry and freeze dried kibble with human grade dog food in kongs as a treat to keep him busy when left alone. He sometimes turns his food bowl upside and then eats the kibble off the floor. He has been doing it less as we continue to work to correct it. He will let you take food and bones from him, although we have only done so a few times.
Additional notes: I have not seen any signs of aggression in Garbanzo, he is super super sweet. He has gone to doggy day care and does very well with the people there as well. When he approaches new people he is excited with a loose, wiggly body. When he sees dogs, he appears interested but doesn't react much and can be easily deterred. He does have a high prey drive for squirrels.
