Frisco's Story

Frisco is looking for a home! This sweet Chihuahua mix is 10 years old and weighs 13 pounds.

He was found as a stray with some weakness in his hind end. Our neurologist later confirmed that he is "spinal walking." This happens when a paralyzed dog with no pain sensation in their hind legs is able to move them involuntarily, relying on reflexes and muscle memory rather than signals from the brain.

Frisco is not in any pain and gets around very well using his hind legs. He's actually quite speedy when he gets going!

Frisco is a happy boy who loves attention and gets along well with dogs and people. He doesn't mind being picked up and handled. He passes stool on his own, but due to his condition, he doesn't always stand when doing so. We recommend wiping his bum afterward to keep him clean and comfortable. He loves being outside in the grass, running and exploring, or sitting and soaking up the sunshine.

Frisco recently had a dental and lost 25 infected teeth. He feels much better now! He also has a grade 2 heart murmur. During an exam, we aspirated a mass on his butt. The results were not concerning, but the mass should be monitored for any changes over time.

He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and recently had full blood work.
