Freya's Story

Freya is a 3-year-old small husky/border collie mix. (Breeds are a guess based on appearance and behavior.) She's a cutie! We tested! Kids and dog were so happy we did! HOWEVER! We'd recommend OLDER kids, though, as she shows some herding and food guarding behavior with little ones.
-- She's been hanging out with cute calico kitty Andie at the shelter. (OK, mostly just ignoring the cat, but that's absolutely a win for compatibility.)
-- She's been going on play dates to the dog park with some of the volunteers' dogs.

Freya has a relaxed, easygoing nature that makes her a wonderful family companion.

She enjoys being near her people, soaking up attention, and would love a home where she can be part of the everyday moments — from movie nights to backyard playtime.

If you’re looking for a loyal, calm and loving addition to your family, Freya might be your perfect match.

Want to see if she could be part of your family?
Let's do a meet and greet soon!
We also offer FOSTER-to-ADOPT as an option, if that might interest you, to help make sure it's a great match for Freya and her new family.

Call 913-684-4939 for an appointment or more information.

Email fortleavenworthstrayfacility@gmail.com for an adoption application, or fill one out at https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/FLSF/Dog.

Featured as the Pet of the Week in the March 5, March 12 and March 19, 2026, issues of the Fort Leavenworth Lamp.

Adopted November 2024 but returned to our care in February 2026 for a better match.
